Tech Tips

AOL Users (back to top)
Older AOL browsers are incompatible with ZAPP™. You can still use AOL to access the Internet. When the AOL welcome screen displays, minimize the window and open Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator to access ZAPP™.

Web Browser (back to top)
ZAPP™ works best with the most recent versions of Internet Explorer (IE), Netscape Navigator (NN), Mozilla, Opera, and Safari. To download the newest version of IE and NN free of charge, click on the corresponding link: Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. Please do not use Internet Explorer if you utilize a Mac running OSX or higher. Please use Safari or Mozilla.

Cookies (back to top)
Cookies must be enabled to work with ZAPP™. A cookie is a small amount of data that a Web site stores on your hard disk. The ZAPP™ cookie logs which application you wish to access so your Internet browser can save and display your application information correctly. When you logout of the ZAPP™ system, that cookie is automatically deleted. ZAPP™ requires cookies, so if you disable them, be sure to enable them for access to our system.

Child Windows (Pop-Ups) (back to top)
Child windows, often called "pop-up windows", appear to provide additional and supplemental information for a Web site. Many users disable these windows to avoid unwanted advertisements. Unfortunately, they also inhibit ZAPP™ from performing properly. You must allow child windows to appear to use ZAPP™ successfully. If you have installed "pop-up blocker" software, spy ware with "pop-up blocking" features, or additional toolbars with blocking capabilities, you will need to disable them.

Formatting (back to top)
Do not bold, italicize, underline, bullet, number, indent or use any other formatting options available in Microsoft Word in a ZAPP™ text box. Formatting will not transfer into ZAPP™ and will cause your text to become skewed and illegible. Also, do not format your copied text in the ZAPP™ text boxes.

HTML (back to top)
Do not use HTML formatting in a text box. If you use HTML formatting for the narrative, it will not be readable.

My Favorite Web Page (back to top)
To save ZAPP™ as one of your favorite Web pages, go to the Welcome page of ZAPP™: www.zapplication.org. Make this page a "Favorite" Web site for easy access. To save the Welcome page as a favorite, pull down the FAVORITE menu from the task bar located at the top of the page in your browser. Then click ADD TO FAVORITES. Do not save the My ZAPPlications page as a favorite Web page. The system will not remember your username and password, and you will not be logged in when accessing the My ZAPPlications page as a favorite.

Lost Data (back to top)
If you return to your application or go to another section and you cannot see any data, the issue might be:
  1. Your computer may have cached an older version of the page, meaning that your computer saved a snapshot of the page, and it has not yet been updated. You will have to update the page manually. You do this by holding down the SHIFT button on your keyboard and clicking on the REFRESH or RELOAD button in your browser at the same time. This action forces the system to retrieve data that was saved successfully in the database and bring it back to the text boxes in the application.
  2. You are not logged into the system. If your Internet connection is disrupted, the system will automatically log you out when you attempt to save work, preview the page, or move to another section of your application. Return to the Welcome page and login to the system. Return to the page. If you saved your work, the data will now appear.
  3. You have disabled or blocked "cookies." ZAPP™ requires cookies, so if they are disabled, be sure to enable/activate them to allow access to our content. If you have purchased software that specifically blocks cookies (such as CookiePal), you must disable this software to enable cookies for ZAPP™. Please refer to the Enable Cookie instructions above.
  4. You have disabled or blocked child windows or "pop-up windows." ZAPP™ requires child windows to be enabled. Please disable "pop-up blockers" to allow access to the system.
Submitting an Application (back to top)
What Happens to Your Application
The show that you have applied to will automatically receive your application. The show will send you an e-mail confirming that it has been received. At this point, you will be able to view but not modify this show-specific application. Your status will be Received, and you may not alter your application in any way.

Storing Your Data
One of the many benefits of ZAPP™ is that once you complete an application, all your data will be stored. If you choose to apply to a show every year, the time spent entering data that remains constant will be reduced.

I Accidentally Submitted My Application
Please call the show that you are applying to and request that they re-activate your application.

Usernames and Passwords (back to top)
My Username and Password are not Working

You may also copy and paste your username and password from the confirmation e-mail sent to you when you registered, or from another document where you have saved this information. Make sure that there are no additional spaces at the end of the login name.

I forgot my Username and Password
Underneath the login fields is a link titled "Forgot Password?". Click on this link. You will be instructed to enter the e-mail address that you used when creating your profile. An e-mail will be sent to this address with your username and password. Enter this username and password to access the system.
