Prizes and Award Process for 2012: A total of six awards will be given during the festival: Best of Show, 2nd Place, 3rd Place and 3 Juror's Awards. 3 of the 5 juror's will return to the festival to judge on site and hand out awards. Best of Show, 2nd and 3rd Place winners will receive an invitation to exhibit the following summer and will have their booth fees waived.

Late March/Early April, 2012 Notification (by email and website. Please do not call.)
1. 175 artists who received the top scores will receive an invitation to exhibit.
2. An additional 75 artists who received
high scores but were not invited to exhibit will serve as alternates and will be notified of their alternate status.
May 15, 2012 Deadline for accepted artists to commit to exhibit, return a signed exhibitor contract and remit booth fee. BOOTH FEES ARE $350 STANDARD AND $425 CORNER. Failure to communicate with show director by this date will result in the forfeiture of invitation.
June 1, 2012 Deadline for artists to cancel and receive a full refund on booth fees.
RULES OF SHOW
1. The Crested Butte Arts Festival welcomes all artists in any fine art or fine craft medium, exhibiting his or her own handmade work of art. There are no quotas in any medium however the jury will be instructed to do their best to select a well balanced show. Approximately 175 artists will be accepted after a competitive jury process.
2. All art must be original in concept, design, and execution. We seek quality, originality, and creativity.
WE DO NOT ACCEPT: any manufactured items, ceramics cast from commercial molds, promotional postcards, books, decoupage, kits, imported, resale or mass produced items, silk screened T-shirts and clothing, pre-packaged foods, soaps or country crafts.
NO EXHIBITOR CAN HAVE MORE THAN 4 EMPLOYEES, INCLUDING FAMILY MEMBERS.
3. Reproductions are allowed, but the artist must fill the majority of his/her booth with originals and one of a kind art. Artists may only show work in categories and body of work selected by the Jury. All work exhibited must be of the quality, category and body of work shown in the images juried. Any artist who exhibits work significantly different than what they were juried in with will be made to remove the different items, will not be invited to participate in the future, and may be required to forfeit their booth fee and leave the festival.
4. Booths may not be shared. No more than two artists may collaborate on work. Both must sign the application and contract to exhibit and be present at the Festival.
5. All exhibiting artists must provide their own booths & display materials. Booths must be white and 10 feet x 10 feet. Booths must be properly weighted and canopies may not extend off the front of tents any further than 3 feet.
As the CB Arts Festival Arts has recently made changes to the categories for application, the following is provided for clarification purposes for artists. While we strive to present a well balanced show, no quotas are enforced for any medium and artists are judged solely on artistic excellence. Artists may apply in more than one category, but must submit separate applications and jury fees for each medium.
Original clay and porcelain work, other than jewelry, will be accepted in this category. No machine or mass-produced items will be accepted.
Original works of digital art can be purely computer-generated, or achieved through the manipulation of other source materials or images by the artist using a computer. Work in this category must be in limited editions of 250 or less, signed and numbered. Traditional photographs taken through a digital media should apply in the PHOTOGRAPHY CATEGORY.
DRAWING & GRAPHIC ARTS
Includes works created using dry media including pencil, chalk, charcoal, pastels, wax crayon, etc., or from the fluid medium of inks and washes applied by pen or brush. In addition, printed works in which the artist hand-manipulates the plates, stones or screens, and which have been signed and numbered as a limited
edition, should be entered in this category.
This category is intended for decorative works crafted from fibers including straw, leather, embroidery, basketry, weaving, tapestry and papermaking. Any wearable items crafted from fiber, including purses, should be submitted in the WEARABLE
Functional or decorative glass works, which are kiln formed or crafted by glass blowing, molding or casting. Works may be etched or engraved. No forms of mass production and no alterations of prefabricated glass objects, i.e., pressed wine bottles, are permitted. This category excludes JEWELRY fabricated from glass.
All jewelry, without limitation regarding the range of materials or processes used, is to be entered in this category. Works should be wearable or designed to wear on clothing. No commercial casts, molds or production work is allowed.
Metalworks include all non-sculptural, non-jewelry works crafted from metals. Metals may be cast, hammered or embossed to feature raised designs. No production studio work is allowed.
Works that incorporate more than one type of material to create one work of art or craft is to be entered in this category. Both 2D and 3D pieces are included. Materials that are used must be evident in the finished work.
Original works created in oils, acrylics, and watercolors are to be entered in this category.
Photographic prints made from the artist’s original image, whether from traditional negatives or digital files and manipulated with computer programs, are included in this category. Photographers are required to disclose both their creative and printing processes. All images must be processed by the artist or under his/her direct supervision.
Original, three-dimensional works of any material or combination of materials are to be entered in this category.
Wearable art, also known, as “art to wear”, refers to individually designed pieces of hand-made clothing. This category includes hand-made hats, belts, purses, scarves, and clothing of any kind, crafted from any materials. No factory produced wearable items, regardless of additional modification or enhancement
by the artist, may be exhibited.
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION
Four images of current work and one booth image representative of work that you plan to display at the Festival are required for jurying. If a booth shot is not available, a grouping of work is acceptable. All images are juried anonymously so please be sure your name or business name does not appear in the image or image title.
A $30 non refundable jury fee is required when submitting your application. Jury fees may be paid by credit card or checks through ZAPP. Checks must be made to the Crested Butte Arts Festival and mailed to: PO Box 324, Crested Butte, CO 81224.
Participating artists will be required to have booths open and be present for the entire duration of the festival. Show hours are: Friday, August 3rd: 5-9 pm; Saturday, August 4th: 10 am - 5 pm; Sunday, August 5th: 10 am - 5 pm.
SELECTION & NOTIFICATION
The five member jury is comprised of working artists and art professionals from the state of Colorado. The jury will view each artist's set of five images projected simultaneously in a horizontal grouping. All artist statements will be read while jurors are reviewing images, so be specific about your process. Additional information about individual images will be given to jurors upon request, but the identity of the artist will remain unknown. Decisions of the jury are final, with the top 175 artists receiving invitations to exhibit and an additional 75 artists wait listed.
Invitations will be issued in late March, 2012. Those artists accepting invitations will be required to sign a contract and mail booth payments and clean up deposits. Corners are limited and will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Contracts and payments will be date stamped as they arrive and corners given out according to date received.
NO BOOTHS WILL BE SOLD THROUGH ZAPP - ONLY CHECK PAYMENTS (NO CREDIT CARDS) MADE PAYABLE TO CB ARTS FESTIVAL AND MAILED TO PO BOX 324, CRESTED BUTTE, CO 81224 WILL SERVE AS PAYMENT. BOOTH FEES ARE: $350 STANDARD, $425 CORNER. CORNER BOOTHS ARE ASSIGNED ON FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED BASIS.
2011 Award Winners will not be subjected to the jury process and jury fees will be waived. However, all winners must submit an application and create a profile via this site. Contact show director for directions on how to bypass jury fees if you were one of the six artists who received an award last summer.
