Over 65,000 art lovers and collectors converge on downtown Fort Myers to enjoy and purchase the work of 200 artists, amid majestic palms, mellow background music and savory food. The downtown riverfront park and yacht basin make the perfect backdrop. Patrons view art with ease, as the artist booths create a circular flow down the center of the wide boulevard. Ample space between booths and over 100 corner locations allow artists maximum exposure. This is a show for artists - new and cutting edge art is equally at home with more traditional work.

ArtFest Fort Myers strives to create a well-balanced show that represents diverse styles and techniques in the following categories: Ceramics, Digital, Drawing/Graphics, Fiber, Glass, Jewelry, Metal, Mixed Media 2-D, Mixed Media 3-D, Painting - oil/acrylic, Painting - watercolor, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, Wearable and Wood. Artists are selected in a blind jury based upon quality of workmanship, originality and artistic conception. All work must be done solely by the exhibiting artists.

Start off the month of February in Fort Myers, where local art buyers and those from our neighboring cities of Marco Island, Naples, Bonita Springs, Sarasota and West Palm Beach will enjoy and purchase your artwork. The rest of February and early March are filled with wonderful art festivals all over Florida---begin your great winter selling season with ArtFest Fort Myers.

A true community event, ArtFest Fort Myers includes art related activities to attract the best audience. For example: the largest high school art exhibit and competition in Southwest Florida, a high school sidewalk chalk competition, and an interactive children's Art Yard that includes a Young Art Collectors Gallery.

Promotion

ArtFest Fort Myers has always put the emphasis on attracting a strong art buying crowd. All advertising messages and media will be targeted toward bringing the buyers to you! Attracting art lovers, experienced and new collectors and educated buyers, who are year-round residents and those visiting Southwest Florida during the peak of season, is our primary goal.

Our Marketing Plan takes a synergistic approach that combines all types of media. It is valued at $150,000+ and results in over 5 million advertising impressions throughout South Florida. The Plan includes television, radio, newspaper, glossy magazines, billboards, direct mail, theater/symphony programs, our website, evites plus year-round YouTube, FaceBook and Twitter activities.

Artists have the opportunity to participate in our festival promotion and can include their work in our full-color Festival Program with a distribution of 7,000 copies to festival patrons, sponsors and VIP members. The Advertising Rate for this opportunity is $50 per artist. Included with your artwork will be (1) Your Name (2) Your Booth Number and (3) Your Email Address or Web Site. Building on the success of 2012, our Friday Night Opening Party includes 60 festival artists. We open one section of our show, dovetailing with the wildly popular downtown Art Walk, from 6 – 10 PM. Electricity is provided for the evening, along with preferred parking and set up time. Young Art Collectors Gallery - "Creating Art Buyers of the Future"

The Young Art Collectors Gallery is designed to allow young art patrons, age 12 and under, to choose and purchase original artwork at a child friendly price of $5. The purpose of this Children-Only Gallery is to encourage, educate and develop art patrons of the future in a fun atmosphere.

Participating festival artists are requested to donate a small piece of work, $25 value or less, to stock the Young Art Collector Gallery. More than one piece of work will be graciously accepted. This donation may or may not be a part of your current body of work - we understand that many artists do not have current work valued at $25 or less. All donating artists will be presented with a “Young Art Collectors Participant” ribbon, for display in their ArtFest Fort Myers booth. Young patrons and their parents will be advised of your booth number, so that they may enjoy your body of work.

100% of the proceeds from the Young Art Collectors Gallery help to fund the ArtFest Fort Myers Art Supply Grant Program and after school Art Clubs for Lee County Elementary Schools. Since its inception in 2004, a total of $31,200 has been directed to our elementary school art programs.

Visiting Artist Program - "Inspire Our Students with Your Talent"

The Visiting Artist Program is a wonderful opportunity for ArtFest Fort Myers artists to share their wisdom and love of the arts with Lee County Middle School students. Artists are assigned one day with an art teacher and provided with the opportunity to motivate a classroom of budding artists with their talent and success story. Activities for the day may include a discussion of how the artist makes a living with his talent, a lesson on how the artist actually creates his work, and/or an interactive project that the students can become involved with. Classroom teachers provide guidance and guidelines for success.

All participating Visiting Artists will be paid a stipend of $165 and classroom supplies will be paid for by ArtFest Fort Myers. Phil Dimmer, Painter and 2012 participant of the Visiting Artist Program summed up his experience: "The teacher and students were wonderful. This was an awesome experience!"

Jury Process

Ninety percent (90%) of the exhibitor spaces (approximately 180) will be selected through the jury process. The remaining spaces are for previous year award winners and invited artists (approximately 20).

The jurors, a diverse group of experienced art professionals, are selected for their art background and for their appreciation of the value of art festivals. Our jury members vary each year, and we often include a festival artist on this panel. Opportunity to view jury images is available to interested artists on set up day and our jury day is also open to artists by webcast (details are emailed in advance of the jury date to artists in our data base).

ArtFest Fort Myers uses Zapplication™ to administer its application and jury process. The jury is a blind jury, meaning that the jurors do not know the names or any other information about the artists. The five member panel is convened in the same room, each having access to a computer monitor for scoring purposes. Artist images are projected digitally (image size is a minimum of 3 feet x 3 feet), each artist's images will be shown simultaneously, side by side, in the order you designate with the booth image last and are scored on a seven-point scale. Booth images should show your booth as it is set up for exhibition at an outdoor show, but without the artist name so as to remain anonymous to jurors. We do not jury on computer monitors. The image description and Artist Statement will be available to the jurors on their computer monitor. The Artist Statement for the categories of Digital, Fiber, Fiber Non-wearable, Jewelry, Mixed Media and Printmaking are read aloud. The decision of the jury is based solely on the projected images and is final.

Images from accepted artists will be retained for promotion, and adherence to the rules.

A wait list, by category, will be established, based on jury scores.

Reproduction Policy

To foster an appreciation and value of the arts in all people, including those who cannot afford original work, we believe it is important to offer attendees the opportunity to buy reproductions. As their incomes grow they will turn to original work. This transition is possible only if buyers understand exactly what they are buying and the process behind it. Therefore, ArtFest Fort Myers' guidelines are:

All reproductions must be clearly and individually labeled as such. Labels must say “reproduction.” This includes any framed reproductions.

o Reproductions must be in signed and numbered editions.
o No hand colored or enhanced reproductions will be considered “original” works; they will be considered reproductions.
o Reproductions are considered as an ancillary part of the artist's display.
o Violators of the spirit, as well as the letter of this policy will be asked to remove their unlabeled reproductions. In any dispute, the decision of the Festival Director shall prevail.

Category Descriptions

Ceramics - Art objects either functional or decorative of earthenware, porcelain, or tile, made by shaping and then firing a nonmetallic mineral, such as clay, at a high temperature.

Digital - Images made with the assistance of computers. Computer graphics are often made with software called drawing, painting, illustrating and photographic programs or applications. Traditional photographs taken with digital media should apply in the photography category.

Drawing/Pastels - Drawings are works on paper using pencil, crayon, ink, charcoal, pastels and a variety of other marking media.

Fiber - Includes non-wearable artwork from fibers such as basketry, embroidery, weaving, tapestry, and papermaking.

Glass - The expression of art made from blowing, fusing or otherwise fashioning glass.

Jewelry - Ornaments, such as bracelets, necklaces, or rings, made of precious metals set with gems, semi-precious gems, ceramic, glass or any other product. Jewelry must always enter in this category and not in glass, ceramic, etc. that may be the type of material used – jewelry is always jewelry.

Metal - Creating artwork through the forging, twisting and fabricating of various metals.

Mixed Media 2-D - Works that incorporate more than one type of physical material in their production. 2-D Mixed Media should include more than one of the following: Paint, pencil, watercolor, photography, printmaking or drawing, fabric or other found objects.

Mixed Media 3-D - Works that incorporate more than one type of physical material in their production. 3-D Mixed Media should include more than one of the following: claywork, fiber, glass, metal, wood or any other 3-D objects.

Painting: Oil/Acrylic - Creation of a still life, portrait, landscape, abstract or other image on a flat surface, such as canvas, with oil and/or acrylic paint or sticks.

Painting: Watercolor - Creation of a still life, portrait, landscape, abstract or other image on a flat surface with watercolors.

Photography - Process of capturing images of objects by the action of light, then printing the images, by chemical or digital means, onto a flat surface.

Printmaking/Graphics - Printmaking is a transfer process of producing original art, usually in multiples. It involves creating a drawing or other composition on a surface other than paper, for transfer to paper through the use of a press or through impressions made by hand.

Sculpture - Shaping figures or a design in the round or in relief, by chiseling marble, modeling clay, casting metal or other materials.

Wearable - Includes clothing, or leather goods, such as belts or purses, that can be worn. No factory-produced items, regardless of additional modification or enhancement by the artist, may be exhibited.

Wood - Art objects, either functional or decorative, that may be hand-tooled or machine worked in wood.

Eligibility and Rules

ArtFest Fort Myers is open to all Artists. Artwork must be original in design and an artist may display and sell only in the media category in which his work has been accepted. Work displayed and sold at ArtFest Fort Myers must be consistent with work represented by jury images.

If two or more persons collaborate to produce original work, each person must be identified on the Application. Collaborations are to be true artistic collaboration rather than business collaboration. For example, framing or printing of work does not constitute a creative partnership, and, therefore, individuals involved in those processes should not be listed on the application as a partner. No work by apprentices or employees will be accepted.

Commercial agents, dealers, manufacturers or buy-sell vendors are not eligible to enter nor can they be proxies for artists.

Artwork produced with kits, castings from commercial molds, patterns, plans or other commercial means is not permitted.

Artist and all collaborating partners must be present on-site with their booths open for business during the entire Festival. If two names are on the application, both must check in and show photo I.D. and be present for the entire festival.

Artists are required to display an Artist Information Statement in a prominent place within their booth. Materials and processes used must be disclosed in this statement.

Displaying ribbons and awards from previous shows or other shows is not allowed.

Original art must occupy at least 50% of the artist's wall space. All artwork on walls must be framed. Browse bins may occupy only minimal space and must be aesthetically pleasing and not obstruct patron flow. All artwork displayed must be for sale.

Limited edition, signed, and numbered reproductions of artwork are allowed. Artist must define “limited edition” in their Artist Information Statement and must disclose their reproduction process to buyers.

Artists must comply with all safety requirements, including weighted tents, and vehicles must be parked only in designated areas.

Exhibitors are responsible for the collection and payment of 6% Florida sales tax.

Artists may withdraw from ArtFest Fort Myers and receive a refund of their Booth Fee (less $50), if a written request is received on or before November 15, 2012. No refunds will be issued after that date. ArtFest Fort Myers is a rain or shine festival. No refunds will be issued for weather or other acts of God.

No animals are allowed in or around Artists' booths.

Acceptance into ArtFest Fort Myers is non-transferable. Only artwork of the accepted artist may be displayed.

ArtFest Fort Myers will inspect booths onsite, to assure compliance of the Rules, and reserves the exclusive right to interpret and enforce the Rules. In any dispute, the decision of the Director shall prevail. Failure to comply with the rules may result in the artist’s removal from ArtFest Fort Myers without a refund and the right to exhibit in future events will be jeopardized.
