Event Summary
The Arts Council of Martin County invites artists to apply to be an exhibitor at our 2017 ArtsFest Stuart.  ArtsFest has an attendance of 15,000+ visitors in beautiful Memorial Park in Downtown Stuart.  A hometown celebration of local arts and culture, the 2-day event provides the area with exceptional fine art and craft exhibitors, a literary village, culinary arts, hands-on activities for the family, and a variety of live musical and theatrical performances. 

ArtsFest Stuart was chosen as a Southeast Tourism Society "Top 20 Event" in 2016.  Artists are our first priority at ArtsFest.  A team of volunteers are dedicated to making your experience great! To enhance sales and attendance at ArtsFest, we use our resources and connections throughout the community to create awareness. Through the generous support from local media, our promotions reach residents throughout South Florida and generate excitement about our event.

General Information
From its genesis in 1988, ArtsFest has become one of the Treasure Coast’s most beloved and best-attended community events. ArtsFest has a reputation for having the best artists, as compared to other shows in the community, and provides significant financial support to the Arts Council of Martin County’s efforts to support the entire cultural sector. 
 
ArtsFest showcases fine artists hailing from all around the country in the juried art show, and talented musicians with local and regional followings. We offer a beautiful tropical setting in scenic Memorial Park in Downtown Stuart. As a community-based arts organization, we seek to shine a spotlight on the many cultural assets in our community and bring fun, hands-on, free activities to the young people who attend.  ArtsFest attracts art patrons, local residents and visitors to the City of Stuart during Florida's busy snowbird season.  
 
ArtsFest, the Council’s largest source of revenue for the year and with the revenues received through admission, sponsorship and other donations, is able to provide support to the entire arts and cultural community.  To find out more about the Arts Council’s many programs, including our artists’ registry, arts education programs and the Court House Cultural Center, visit www.martinarts.org.

Artist Amenities
Artists are our first priority at ArtsFest. A team of volunteers are dedicated to making your festival experience great! Artist amenities include:
o     24 hour security, Friday through Sunday at 8 pm
o     Artists’ images and website links posted on The Arts Councils’ website and social media
o     Volunteer Booth sitters will be available during festival hours. 
o     Hospitality throughout the weekend for artists
o     Breakfast coupons for Saturday & Sunday will be included in your Artists’ check-in packet.

Artist Awards
Cash awards will be given for outstanding artists, (in categories represented by more than 5 separate artists’ booths) during the festival, to include Best of Show and Best of Category awards.   Any category represented by fewer than five separate artists’ booths will not be judged.  Categories currently include Ceramics, Drawing (including pastel & colored pencil), Glass, Jewelry, Mixed Media (including all media), Painting, Photography, Sculpture, and Wood.  Please read the Definitions of Categories for details.  ArtsFest reserves the right to combine categories, such as Painting and Drawing into 2-D Artwork, depending on the number of entries in any specific category, to facilitate distribution of awards.

Media Categories
 
Ceramics – Original clay and porcelain work other than jewelry. If multiple pieces of the same design are displayed, the artist must sign each piece. No machine-made or mass-produced work is permitted.
 
Drawing/Graphics - All two-dimensional monochromatic or polychromatic original artworks created by the artist’s hand in any traditionally dry media, such as graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, pastel, etc. will be judged as one category under Drawing. 
Only gallery-wrapped canvases may be hung unframed.  Stretched canvases that are not gallery-wrapped, unfinished and/or stapled on the sides instead of on the back must be framed to hang or shown in a browse bin.  No rolled canvases.  Works on paper must be properly matted and framed to hang, or bagged and displayed in a browse bin.  Original work and reproductions must be displayed separately and properly labeled.
 
Glass – Glass is defined as original works that are functional or decorative by design, and have been crafted by blowing, molding or casting glass.  Works may be etched, engraved, or combined with other materials.  No forms of mass production are permitted.  Stained glass, dichroic, and all other glass pieces will be judged as one category.
 
Jewelry - All jewelry whether the work is produced from metal, glass, clay, fiber, paper, plastic or other materials must be entered in this category. No commercial casts, molds or production studio work is allowed.  Jewelry is defined as that created (not just assembled) by the artist(s) applying to show the work.  While commercially produced findings, wires, etc. may be included in the product, the finished pieces shown must be unique, original in design, and mostly or completely created by the hand of the artist.
 
Examples of acceptable jewelry are:
·         Gold and silversmithing, pewter, copper, and other metals fabricated by the artist into unique, wearable pieces;
·         Stones (precious and/or semi-precious) that are cut, tumbled, and/or shaped by the artist’s hand and are worked into in unique, wearable pieces;
·         Lamp work beads or other original glass pieces created by the artist that are included in unique, wearable pieces;
·         Polymer beads and other pieces made from polymer clay created by the artist that are featured in unique, wearable pieces;
·         Original components created by the artist in other materials such as ceramic, clay, leather, paper, plastic, or wood, that are featured in unique, wearable pieces;
·         Any combination of the above.
 
Examples of unacceptable “jewelry” are:
·         Commercially produced cabochons (including those made by machine or by other than the applying artist’s hand) that are purchased and wire-wrapped as a final piece;
·          Commercially produced beads, crystals, stones, pearls, findings, and other elements that are simply purchased and assembled as final pieces with no original components created by the artist;
·         Commercially produced components purchased by the artist that are woven into wearable pieces with string or simply strung onto a piece of leather;
·         Anything produced from commercial casts, molds or production studio work;
·         Anything purchased as a completed piece for the purpose of resale (Buy/Sell).
·         Anything completely assembled from materials that anyone can purchase and replicate.

Mixed Media - Mixed media is a tough category to define, but the original intent was to create a category for 2-D work that was executed in more than one medium, collage, included fibers or natural materials such as leaves, and the like.  It may now include those pieces, along with 3-D sculptural pieces, assemblages, and anything created with more than one medium in an indefinable category.  Remember: unless there are five or more separate artists’ booths participating in any one category, they will not be considered for awards.
 
Painting - All two-dimensional monochromatic or polychromatic original artworks created by the artist’s hand in any traditionally wet media, such as acrylic, oil, watercolor, etc., on paper, canvas, etc., will be judged as one category.  Only gallery-wrapped canvases may be hung unframed.  Stretched canvases that are not gallery-wrapped, unfinished and/or stapled on the sides instead of on the back must be framed to hang or shown in a browse bin.  No rolled canvases.  Works on paper must be properly matted and framed to hang, or bagged and displayed in a browse bin.  Original work and reproductions must be displayed separately and properly labeled.
 
Photography/Digital Media - Photography is defined as an image captured by means of a camera, either on film or digitally, which is then developed, processed, and printed by some means onto photo paper, archival paper, or canvas, which may be matted and bagged, matted and framed, or canvas stretched onto stretcher bars and gallery-wrapped or framed for display.  Photos may be produced as a one-off, as an open edition, or as a limited edition, and are generally signed and possibly numbered by the photographer.  ArtsFest judges all photography as one category.  No heavy Photoshopping: images created digitally or drastically changed will not be judged.  Photos must be printed on photo paper or as Giclées on rag or other archival papers, or on canvas.  No photocopies or laser prints will be shown.   Only gallery-wrapped canvases may be hung unframed.  Stretched canvases that are not gallery-wrapped, unfinished and/or stapled on the sides instead of on the back must be framed to hang or shown in a browse bin.  No rolled canvases.  All other photographs hung on the wall must be framed.  Matted and bagged photos must be shown in a browse-bin.  Photographers are required to disclose both their creative and printing processes in their Artist’s Statement.
 
Sculpture - Three-dimensional original work done in any medium will be judged as Sculpture, including bronze castings in limited editions.

Wood - Original works in any wood or laminated woods that are hand-tooled, machine-worked, turned or carved will be judged as Wood.  Wood may be combined with other materials.
 

Rules/Regulations
Thank you for your interest in applying to ArtsFest 2017.  ArtsFest is designed for artists who create and execute original, professional quality work. The ArtsFest Staff and Committee will monitor the show for misrepresentation and to ensure compliance with the rules and standards. Artists will be required to remove all work that is questionable and/or not in compliance. Continued violation of the rules or failure to cooperate with ArtsFest Staff and Committee may result in expulsion from the show and ineligibility for future shows.
 
1.  Artists may exhibit artwork only in the category/medium in which he/she was accepted.
2.  Only artists accepted in the Jewelry category may exhibit or sell jewelry; all jewelry regardless of materials must be entered in the Jewelry category.
3.  All work must be original, handcrafted work. Artist guarantees the accuracy of the description (technique, materials, and process) of the works presented and the authenticity of the work as the creation of their own hands. Co-artists must describe their collaboration. 
4.  An Artist Statement must be provided on application, posted in each booth, and must be present during judging.
5.  All artists are required to check in at Artist Check-In before setting up their booth. Picture ID will be required upon arrival.
6.  Artists accepted for participation MUST be in attendance during the entire show. No agents, dealers, apprentices, employees or representatives may attend in place of the artist(s).
7.  Only one artist may display per booth unless the work produced is a collaboration of two artists.  All work displayed MUST be produced by the exhibiting artist or a two-person team collaboration and MUST be consistent with the images submitted. Work produced by apprentices or employees is unacceptable.
8.  Accepted artists may not exhibit in other shows during the dates of ArtsFest.
9.  Artists who sell their entire body of artwork must remain with their booth for the duration of the show.
10.  Unless requested to do so, or granted permission by the festival director, artists may not break down displays/booths or depart before closing time on any day of the show. Any artist doing so will not be allowed to return the following day or to future shows.
11.  ABSOLUTELY NO BUY/SELL. No merchandise such as coffee cups, note cards, calendars, or other items mass produced from an original piece of artwork will be permitted.  Anyone reported and confirmed as selling anything purchased for resale will be asked to pack up and leave the show immediately,
12.  Displaying ribbons and awards from other shows is not allowed.
13.  FINE CRAFT FABRICATION:   All fine craft, including Ceramics, Fiber Art, Glass, Sculpture, and Wood, must be original and created   by hand.  No assemblages of commercially produced materials shall be accepted in any category.  After judging for selection, we may request additional information from some potential participants, including photographs documenting materials, process, and methods used to create the work to be shown, and the craftsperson in the process of creating the craft.  Hand-painted furniture will be placed into the Mixed Media category unless the furniture was also crafted by the artist’s hand.
14.  FINE ART REPRODUCTION POLICY: 
·         Fine Art Reproductions of original paintings, pastels, drawings, collage or mixed media may be exhibited if they are of professional quality, printed in limited editions in reasonable numbers, signed and numbered on the front of each piece.  No excessive numbers of A/P (artist’s proofs) of any one image.  Reproductions must be printed with professional-quality inks on canvas or watercolor paper, stretched or properly presented for sale.  No rolled canvases.  If the reproductions are printed by the artist, no prints on photo paper of art images may be shown.  Method of reproduction must be stated on each piece and in your Artist’s Statement.  Any intentional misrepresentation of a reproduction sold as an original is forbidden.  Patrons must be made aware of exactly what they are purchasing. 
·         Matted & bagged reproductions may only be displayed in browse bins.  Total framed reproductions hung may not exceed the number of original works being shown. Reproduction pieces must be clearly marked as “Reproduction" or “Limited Edition Reproduction" on the front of each piece. Reproductions may not be in the same browse bin as originals. The browse bin must also be labeled “Reproductions."
 ·         Framed reproductions may be displayed in browse bins and/or hung on one wall of the booth, not to exceed ten (10) linear feet. All unframed reproductions must be displayed in browse bins. Total number of framed reproductions hung may not exceed the number of original works being shown. Multiple reproductions of the same image may be stored out-of-sight and brought out when one is sold.
 ·         No laser prints, photo prints of paintings, or color photocopies will be permitted.  Hand-embellished or textured reproductions must be shown and labeled as such: they MAY NOT be represented as originals.  Reproductions are not eligible for judging.
 ·         No posters or t-shirts may be shown or sold – only the show may sell posters and t-shirts to raise funds at a designated booth. Calendars, brochures, and other self-promotional materials produced by the artist may be given away, but may not be sold.  Cards and postcards that are published by the artist showing the artist’s own original work may be displayed and sold.

RESTRICTIONS

No rollerblades, skateboards, scooters or bicycles allowed during the Festival
No pets allowed; with the exception of service animals.

Sales & Sales Tax

Artists retain all proceeds from their sales. All artists are responsible for collecting Florida sales tax (currently 6%) . A tax form will be provided in your check-in packet. ArtsFest assumes no responsibility in this matter.

Booth Information
Booth spaces are on concrete or grass and measure 10’x10’ or 10'x20' for double booths, with a 1' buffer on each side. Artists are expected to provide their own 10’X10’ or 10'x20' canopied, white tent and displays, which should be sufficiently sturdy to withstand weather and crowds. Artists should be prepared for inclement weather with rain covers, tie-downs, and weights. Booths must have weights on all four corners and staking will not be allowed. Artists will be held liable for any damages made by their tents and/or displays. Each artist is responsible for his/her own tent and display in case of damage or loss. There will be a small space behind the tent for storage. All storage must be neatly concealed within space provided. ArtsFest will attempt to accommodate specific booth requests; however, no booth space request will be guaranteed. Artists will have the opportunity to purchase booth spaces upon notification of acceptance. Generators are not permitted; however, battery powered lighting and fans are acceptable. Electricity is available in a limited number of booths in the park only for an additional fee and must be arranged before the festival. No on-site requests for electricity can be accommodated.

Booth Signs will be provided to you in your Artists’ Information packet and must be displayed prominently in your booth during the show.   This will better identify you to our judges, and to your customers who may wish to pursue you for additional purchases after the show.  We encourage you to be available to greet your visitors as they enter your booth, and to have your business cards available.

** Some spaces may only be accessible by dollying-in, so be aware that participants may not be able to drive in to load-in and load-out of all spaces.  Artists are asked to break down to the ground after the show before driving in and packing up.

·         Jury Fee (non-refundable) - $30
·         Single 10x10 Booth Fee - $300 by Nov. 30 - $325 after Dec 1
·         Single 10x10 Corner Booth Fee - $325 by Nov. 30 - $$350 after Dec 1
·         Double 10x20 Booth Fee – $575 by Nov. 30 - $625 after Dec 1
·         Electric (park booths only): $40
 
Refund Policy

ArtsFest strives to make refunds available that are fair and agreeable to both parties. Your submission of this application creates an obligation and expectation for you to exhibit and participate in the festival according to the itemized guidelines.  Cancellations must be in writing, faxed or emailed for a refund. The following refund schedule will apply:
·         Prior to January 1, 2017: Booth fees will be refundable minus $50.
·         After January 1, 2017: No refunds given.
Please Note:
·         This is a rain or shine festival ~ there are no refunds due to inclement weather.
·         The decision to close the show due to weather is at the sole discretion of the Show Director.
·         Hardship refunds can be made up to the show date and must be accompanied with acceptable documentation (accident report, doctor’s note etc,), at the sole discretion of the Show Director.
·         Jury fees are non-refundable.
·         A no-call, no-show exhibitor may be ineligible for future shows.
·         Leaving early without permission will make exhibitors ineligible for admission to future ArtsFest festivals.
