Event Summary
In 18 years, Art in the Square has grown in reputation to become one of the top small fine art shows in the country. Featuring 150 artists in a beautiful upscale setting, the 2 ½ day show draws attendance from both Dallas and Fort Worth. With its relaxed, friendly atmosphere and serious potential shoppers, this show has become a favorite of professional artists.

SHOW OVERVIEW
Art in the Square 2017 will take place in Southlake Town Square, an upscale retail and business development with a beautiful park setting and plenty of parking. The location is in a very affluent suburb of Dallas/Fort Worth. Our show has been described as “outstanding” by artists and art publications with “a very educated crowd, excellent quality original art and an incredibly organized, accommodating promoter.”
Art in the Square also offers great food, a variety of quality music, children’s activities and two student art programs.
 
ABOUT US
Art in the Square is a non-profit festival hosted by the Southlake Women’s Club, the City of Southlake and Southlake Town Square. Through sponsorships, fund raising and donations, Art in the Square has raised more than two million dollars for local charities over the last 17 years.

ARTIST AWARDS
Art in the Square presents several awards to artist participants.
Featured Artists: Selected by the jury to participate in the Art in the Square Gallery Exhibit held in Town Hall. Featured art will be used in all event publicity.
 
People’s Choice Award:  Selected by public voting at the Featured Artist Gallery Exhibit.
           
Award of Excellence:  Selected by onsite judges and awarded to artists whose work best demonstrates the quality, executional expertise and originality that is the spirit of Art in the Square.  These recipients receive a complimentary 10’ x 10’ booth space for 2018.
 
Juror’s Choice Award: Also selected onsite to honor artists whose remarkable work captures the interest of the judges.

ARTIST SELECTION
  • The Art in the Square jury invites 150 artists to exhibit at the festival.  Submitted work will be judged on originality, aesthetics, design elements, technique, execution, quality and creative use of materials. Artistic excellence is the overriding criterion for artist selection.
  • The jury is made up of working artists and other art professionals. Although materials, dimensions and artist descriptors are available to the jury, the artist names are not.  Decisions of the jury are final. 
  • The jury also selects a wait list. Wait-listed artists will be invited as space becomes available prior to the event.
  • Artists wishing to apply in more than one medium must submit three artwork images and one booth image for each medium.
  • A booth shot is required and is a vital part of the selection process. A photo showing a significantly representative group of works may be submitted, but this is NOT preferable. Consider applying as an Emerging Artist if you have minimal exhibit history.

EMERGING ARTIST PROGRAM
  • The Art in the Square Emerging Artist (EA) program is designed for developing artists in the DFW Metroplex who have exhibited in no more than two juried art shows.  These artists gain experience in marketing and presenting their artwork, working under an artist mentor and interacting and receiving feedback from potential customers.
  • Application fees and deadlines are the same as for all artists. Booth fees are reduced.
  • EA area closes at 8:00 on Friday and Saturday as there is no electrical power in this area. This allows time for participants to observe and interact with other artists at the event.
  • Four artwork images are required; a booth shot is not necessary. When submitting your application, indicate that your 4th image is a booth shot.
  • Emerging Artists share a large display tent provided by Art in the Square. Each EA has their own 10x10 space and will be responsible for providing panels, tables and other display items.


Rules/Regulations
ARTWORK EXHIBIT POLICY
  • All exhibits must be artist created.
  • Original work by the artist must occupy at least 75% of the display space in the booth. 
  • Limited edition, signed and numbered reproductions may be displayed.  These reproductions must be labeled, the process defined and clearly visible.  If appropriate, gallery quality frames are required.
  • Unframed quality reproductions of artist-signed two-dimensional originals may be displayed in browse boxes or bins.
  • Exhibiting artists must be in attendance during the entire show.
  • Accepted artists may only exhibit work in the medium or body of work submitted to the jury.  Works exhibited are expected to be consistent with the images submitted.
  • Collaborating artists are permitted but each artist must be identified on the application. 
  • Work done by a production studio is not acceptable.
  • For more than one artist to display in a booth, each artist must apply and receive an invitation separately.
  • Adherence to policies is monitored.

Our signed Contract (attached to invitation emails) and Booth fee from invited artists is due January 18, 2017.
 
BOOTH REQUESTS 
Booth assignments are done on a 1st come 1st serve basis. Requests must be written on the contract.
 
CANCELLATION POLICY
Refunds (less a $30 administrative fee) for booth fees will be given for cancellations received prior to March 3, 2017.  No fees will be refunded after this date. There will be no exceptions.
  
CHECK IN AND SET UP
Check in is located at the Artist Hospitality Booth located directly across the street from Town Hall. For GPS, use 1400 Main Street, Southlake Texas.
 
Thursday night check in (April  27) will begin at 7:00 sharp and will continue until 9:30 PM. Later set up is acceptable but there will be no check in after 9:30PM. Artists located in the park can begin setting up after checking in. Artists in the street will need to wait until 7:30PM or until cars are cleared.
 
Friday morning check in (April 28)  will begin at 7:30AM and continue until 1:00.  NO check in after 1:00PM unless approved by the show director. Electrical test is at 3:00. Show opens at 4:00.
 
SALES and TAXES
Artists retain all revenue from the sale of their work. Artists are responsible for collecting and reporting of all taxes, including 8.25% sales tax. For information call the Texas Comptroller’s Office at 800.252.5555 or go to window.state.tx.us
