Event Summary
The 52nd Annual Downtown Bethlehem Fine Art and Craft Show will take place on Mother’s Day weekend, May 13th - 14th, in historic downtown Bethlehem PA.  Bethlehem's downtown streets are lined with upscale shops and restaurants, and the city attracts an affluent crowd of shoppers.  Every Mother’s Day weekend the downtown is especially busy with gift-buyers and art patrons.  Bethlehem is well-known as a community that supports, promotes and funds the arts, and is a regional tourist destination with rich history.

The Downtown Bethlehem Fine Art and Craft Show is sponsored by the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission, which will award over $1300 in prizes at the artists’ reception following the show on Saturday May 13th.  Street music, a children’s fine art area, and an artist-in-residence add to the ambience of the weekend and bring additional buyers to the show.  The Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission advertises and promotes the show through various media including news and art publications, a billboard, radio spots, printed literature, online calendars and social media.

We expect to accept approximately 90 fine artists and craft artisans into the 2017 show.
 

General Information

SHOW DATES AND HOURS:

10:00 - 5:00 Saturday, May 13, 2017
11:00 - 5:00 Sunday, May 14, 2017

The artists' reception, which starts soon after 5:00 on Saturday, is a fun opportunity to meet and mingle with fellow artists and show organizers while enjoying complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres.  Awards are announced at the reception.

ELIGIBILITY:

All works must be original and created by the artist.  Objects made from commercial kits or commercially available plans are not acceptable.  The majority of the exhibited works must be originals and not commercially reproduced prints.  Artists may show work only in the category for which they were juried and accepted.  Images submitted for jurying must be representative of the works on display at the show.

This is a juried show, and submissions are evaluated each year based on creativity, originality, technique and presentation.  Acceptance into a previous show does not guarantee acceptance into the current show.

ART SHOW FEES:

$20 non-refundable application fee due with application.
$130 booth fee due upon acceptance.

No refunds given for cancellation after acceptance.

AWARDS:
Each year the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission selects a judge to review the displayed works on Saturday morning and select the prize winners.  The judge will be a professional artist, art instructor or curator known and respected in the region.  Awards are determined at the discretion of the judge and not by category/media.

The awards are as follows:

  • Best of Show $600 
  • Second Prize $400 
  • Third Prize $250 
  • Best Display $100

FACILITIES:

Food and drink can be purchased from the many restaurants downtown.
Port-a-potties are provided.
Each artist will receive one parking pass good for the weekend in one of the downtown garages.
A limited number of volunteer booth-sitters is available.

SETUP:
The show street(s) will be closed to traffic starting at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.  Artists may begin setting up at this time.  The show opens at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.  Setup must be completed before the start of the show each day.  Teardown begins after 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.  For safety reasons, vehicles are not permitted at your tent before 5:00 p.m. either day.  

You are fully responsible for your own exhibit and should have someone with your exhibit at all times.  (A limited number of art show volunteers is available to tent-sit for you on request.)  Please remove valuables overnight; even though the area is patrolled by the police, they can't be everywhere.  The Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission, the Show Committee, and the City of Bethlehem are not responsible for any loss, theft or damage.


Rules/Regulations
  • A registration is a commitment to the two days and official hours of the Show. 
  • No refunds will be given for cancellation after acceptance. 
  • Artists sharing a space must each submit an application and pay full Art Show fees. 
  • The images submitted for jurying must be representative of the work to be exhibited and the display tent to be used. 
  • Participating artists must supply their own tent and display fixtures. 
  • The Bethlehem Fine Art & Craft Show will be held rain or shine. Artists should be prepared for the possibility of inclement weather, including rain and/or wind. 
  • The artist whose work has been accepted must be present for the entire show.
  • All work must be priced and be for sale.
  •  Each artist is responsible for assembling, managing, cleaning and removing their exhibit.  The Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission assumes no responsibility for loss or damage to any artwork or displays.
  • No generators or external electrical hookups are permitted.
  • By participating you agree to permit the reproduction of your images for publicity purposes. (May include print and/or website use.)
  • The City of Bethlehem requires artists to acquire a Business Privilege License (valid for a 12-month period May - April, for all events within the City of Bethlehem) and to pay a minimal mercantile tax on sales.  Information and forms can be found at BFAC Bethlehem tax link
  • Each artist is responsible for collection and payment of Pennsylvania's 6% sales tax.


Booth Information
  • Booth spaces will accommodate a 10' x 10' tent.
  • A limited number of double spaces are available for $260. Please contact the show manager at jslbg2@verizon.net to to request a double space.
  • Artists must furnish tents and fixtures that are able to withstand weather and crowds, and fit within a 10’ x 10’ space.
  • Most booth spaces are located on pavement. Local topography makes it imperative to bring items with which to level your tent and display fixtures.
  • We will try to accommodate booth location requests, but specific spaces cannot be guaranteed.
  • This is an outdoor show and electricity is not available.
  • Booth locations and other details will be sent in April.
