Event Summary
Artfest, Spokane's largest outdoor art and music festival, kicks off the summer season June 1-3, 2018. In its 33rd year, ArtFest is sponsored by the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture (MAC) and draws approximately 20,000 visitors from eastern Washington, northern Idaho, western Montana and southern Alberta, Canada, who look forward each year to this high quality, juried arts event. Applications close March 10, 2018, and accepted artists will be notified by March 21, 2018.

  • Please note that the 10X15 booth size is not available this year. Electricity is on a very limited availability. Special location requests require a special request fee of $100 and will be considered on a “first come basis”.

Media Categories

Ceramics: All original clay work is acceptable (wheel thrown, slab, etc.) No commercially molded or purchased green ware is allowed. All ceramic forms and glazing must be created by the artist or under his/her direct supervision.

Cottage Crafts: Traditional crafts historically considered functional and may include soap, candles, beadwork, needlepoint, cross stitch, quilting, brooms, dolls and toys, calligraphy and pressed flowers. Wearable fibers in this category include hand painted or modified fabric not made by the artist. Category includes Pre-packaged food .

Digital Art: This category includes any original work for which the original image, or the manipulation of source material, was executed by the artist using a computer. Traditional photographs taken through a digital media should apply in the photography category.

Drawing: Works created using dry media including chalk, charcoal, pastels, pencil, wax crayon, etc. or from the fluid medium of inks and washes applied by pen or brush are to be entered in this category.

Fiber Art: All work crafted from fibers including basketry, embroidery, weaving, rug making, tapestry and papermaking. All work crafted from fibers that are wearable (i.e. hats, scarves, shoes, clothing, belts, purses, etc.). No factory produced wearable items, regardless of additional modification or enhancement by the artist, may be exhibited in this category. Any wearables using hand painted or screen-printed components must apply in the Cottage Crafts category. No machine tooling, machine-screened patterns or other forms of mass production are permitted
Furniture: Includes all original handmade furniture.
Glass: Blown, fused, cut or sculpted original works in glass. Glass jewelry must apply in jewelry category. No pre-manufactured, molds or mass production work is permitted, regardless of additional modification or enhancement.

Jewelry: All jewelry, regardless of medium, must be entered in this category. All jewelry must be designed and made by the artist. No commercial casts, molds, settings or production studio work is allowed.

Leather: All handmade leather items are to be entered into this category. No machine-made or mass produced work is permitted.

Metalwork: Includes all metal sculpture, non-jewelry works crafted from metals. No production studio work is allowed.

Mixed Media: This category includes works that incorporate more than one type of material.

Music/Instruments: This category includes handmade musical instruments.

Other: Art that does not fit into any other category. The committee reserves the right to modify your submission category. 

Painting: Original works in oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc. A small number of limited edition prints on museum quality paper, signed and numbered will be allowed.

Photography: Work in this category includes traditional film photography, hand-colored images and emulsion transfers that have not been excessively manipulated to achieve results beyond what could be done in a traditional darkroom. Prints of photographs made from the artist's original negative must be processed by the artist or under the artist's direct supervision. Photographers are required to disclose both their creative and printing processes.

Printmaking: Hand pulled original prints that are signed and numbered in limited editions by the artist. Printed works for which the artist hand manipulated the plates, stones or screens.

Wood: Original works in wood that are hand-tooled, machine-worked, turned or carved, excluding furniture.

Rules/Regulations
RESTRICTIONS
All artwork must be original from concept through completion.  No commercial production (such as commercial bisque ware) or student work will be accepted.  Originals of any reproductions must be exhibited and clearly labeled as such. If any commercially-made parts are utilized, they must constitute only a small percentage of each piece.  We encourage artists to be present.  Artist’s partners are acceptable; however, agents and dealers are not allowed. All restrictions will be enforced by the ArtFest Committee.
