Apply for t the 35th Annual Celebration of the Arts Festival, 1984-2018 – Come back in time to the 1980’s for a Total Eclipse of the Arts!  May 18-20, 2018. COA will take place May 18-20, 2018 at Midland Tower, 223 W. Wall Street in downtown, Midland, Texas.  COA is the longest running, annual event held in downtown Midland!  COA has a strong reputation locally - community support year after year - draws out of town visitors. Fine Art is the centerpiece of the festival.  COA hosts local entertainers; non-profit organizations;  children's activities; regional writers, FUN food; and special events.  Friday night, a Premier Party showcasing visual artists is an annual party for art lovers; Saturday & Sunday artists are the focal point of weekend with many family attractions.

Award-winning artists from COA 2017 will automatically be accepted into COA 2018. (Coupon code AWARD) 2017 winners must submit an application for space reservation by deadline and are required to pay applicable booth fees; but no application fee!


Artist’s venue is completely indoors (Midland Tower Building) with air conditioning, natural light, as well as electrical lighting and indoor plumbing.  There are a limited number of outdoor booths available.  Artists displaying outdoors must provide their own tent and setups. 



General Information
The 35th Annual Celebration of the Arts Festival, 1984-2018 – Come back in time to the 1980’s for a Total Eclipse of the Arts!  May 18-20, 2018.

COA is the longest-running, annual event held in downtown Midland.   

The Celebration of the Arts annual festival is presented by the Arts Council of Midland a 501 © 3 nonprofit arts agency whose mission is to enrich lives with all the arts through advocacy, education, outreach and promotion!  Proceeds from COA provides funding for year-round community programs.
 
Celebration of the Arts is presented by the nonprofit organization Arts Council of Midland, whose mission is:  Enriching lives with the arts through community-wide advocacy, education, outreach and promotion!  Arts Council of Midland works closely with the City of Midland, the Downtown Midland Municipal District, Doubletree by Hilton, and many local and regional partners to make this event special and possible.
 
Daytime, general admission is free thanks to the support of a local foundation. 
 
A singular, unique space awaits artists and visitors at Midland Tower, A Wes Perry project, with a variety of booth sizes available.  Please note:  Commission is not charged on artist sales; only a flat booth fee. 
 
Advertising for COA includes:  Print, radio, television, electronic billboards, and multiple social media applications.

Hospitality is our hallmark, and our volunteers create a wonderful private artists’ hospitality area provide volunteer booth sitters.

 



Rules/Regulations
Artwork must be the original, handmade work by the artist and produced within 24 months of the 2018 Festival. Reproduced prints cannot be more than 50% of the displayed work. Anything submitted/produced from other sources or commercial patterns/kits are ineligible. Artists marketing any type of prints of their original work must clearly label them as reproductions.  These reproductions may not be more than 50% of your work exhibited in your booth. All work exhibited must be equivalent in quality to that depicted in application images. Images submitted must be representative of all work to be shown. ACM reserves the right to refuse space to any artist not complying with these guidelines.  Arts Council of Midland reserves the right to close the booth of any artist who refuses to adhere to the regulations set forth in this prospectus.
 
COA Committee members will be present to enforce eligibility policies. Artists who are found in violation of these restrictions will be required to remove those items from their booths.
 
Booth placement will be arranged by the COA committee and will be issued on a first come, first serve basis after the juried selection process.

Artists must bring their own booth set-ups.
 
Tents are not allowed in the Midland Tower Building.  Limited outdoor tent spaces are available.  ACM does not provide tents for artists out-of-doors.
 
All indoor booth fees include electricity.  Pipe & Drape, tables (6 foot tables only) and chairs are available at an additional fee.

Booth sharing is discouraged. However, a maximum of two people may share a booth but both artists must individually apply through Zapplication and each artist must pay the Zapplication fee. 
 
Artists accepted into COA are required to give a piece of their artwork (originals only) with a minimum retail value of $100. Artists must e-mail an image of the silent auction donation along with media, dimensions, title and price if accepted by April 8, 2018 to the ACM office, for promotional advertising. Works must be presented by the artist to the COA representatives upon arrival during booth assignments. Minimum bids will be listed on auction items based upon your information. Prints are not accepted for silent auction requirement unless the artist is a photographer. Silent Auction proceeds go to ACM. All two-dimensional auction items must be framed...matted work will not be accepted.
 
Celebration of the Arts is juried for a general audience and reserves the right to remove any work deemed unsuitable by ACM officials.

The Arts Council of Midland reserves the right to use, any submitted artwork by artist or artwork of participants during Celebration of the Arts festival, for promotional purposes.

Friday, May 18, 2018 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (Artists may not move setups or artwork into the building prior to 9am.)   Booth jurying takes place at 5:00 pm.  Premiere Night begins at 7PM

Absolutely no loading out before the festival ends.  Load-out will begin at 5pm Sunday, May 20th.
Absolutely no breaking down of booth before close of show Sunday. Any one in violation will not be invited back to future shows.  .

APPLICATION PROCESS
Artists may apply once per category and in a maximum of 2 categories. Collaborating artists may apply to participate at the event, but only their joint work may be shown and sold. Both names must appear on all application materials and both artists must contribute to the creation of the art pieces. ACM reserves the right to refuse any application. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.  Collaborating artists must both pay the $25 application fee.
 
Jury Fee: $25 Non-refundable check(s) or online MC or VISA payment to Arts Council of Midland for each medium to be exhibited. Must be a separate payment submitted with application. Fee deposited upon receipt. Checks can be mailed to Arts Council of Midland, P.O. BOX 3494, Midland, TX 79702.
 
APPLICATION MEDIA CATEGORIES

CERAMICS: Original clay work. No machine made or mass produced work is accepted. Each item must be signed.
FIBER: Original work of primarily fiber including soft sculpture, batik, painted fabric and baskets.
GLASS: Original work in which the primary material is glass. No manufactured molds or other forms of mass production allowed.
GRAPHICS/PRINTMAKING/DRAWING: Original works made with pen, pencil or other markers, including charcoal or traditional printmaking. Prints hand pulled by artists from traditional methods, including etching, engraving, silkscreen, stone and plate lithography, linoleum block or woodcut, produced in signed and numbered limited editions from an original image created by the artist.
JEWELRY: Original jewelry made from precious and non-precious metals, gemstones, enamel, glass, clay, fiber, etc. No mass production techniques allowed.
METALWORK: Includes all non-sculptural, non-jewelry works crafted from metals.
PAINTING: Original painted works made with oils, acrylics, watercolors, or pastels.
PHOTOGRAPHY/DIGITAL ART: Prints from original negatives must be processed by the artist or under artist's supervision.
SCULPTURE: Original non-functional, 3-dimensional work of any material.
2-D MIXED MEDIA: Original work incorporating more than one material.
3-D MIXED MEDIA: Original 3- dimensional work incorporating more than one material.
WOODWORK: Original woodwork, hand tooled, carved, or machine worked.
 
DIGITAL IMAGES
·         Four (4) images are to be submitted for each individual media category entered by the artist.
·         Three (3) images must be of individual pieces of work. Image number 4 must be a display of the artist’s work, showing the overall continuity and presentation of your current body of work. The fourth image is mandatory.  If a booth image per se is not available, submit an image taken of a grouping of works representative of the works to be exhibited at the show. The purpose of the booth image is to demonstrate how the artist displays their work.
·         NOTE: This is a blind jury process; please avoid submitting booth images with any identifiable sign, or photo of the artist themselves.

ON-SITE REQUIREMENTS, SET-UP AND SALES
·         Artists must be present during the entire event and must personally staff their exhibit space.
·         Artists must obtain a Texas Sales Tax Permit (Note: It is not the responsibility of Arts Council of Midland  to advise exhibitors of any city, state or local taxes with respect to payment. All city, state and local taxes, and licenses, if any, are the responsibility of participating exhibitors).
·         No agents, dealers, or representatives may attend the event in place of the artist.
·         Each artist is required to show photo identification at check-in.
·         Assistance from festival staff will not be available for booth set-up.
·         No commission on sales will be charged.
·         Artists must comply with all staff and uniformed security regarding site safety and regulations.
·         Vehicles must be parked only in designated areas; noncompliance will result in elimination from consideration for any future attendance
