Event Summary
Since 1970, the Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild, a nonprofit organization based in Raleigh, NC, has hosted a profitable marketplace for the finest contemporary crafts in the United States. Our annual indoor show provides a premier showcase for CDCG Exhibiting Artists and provisional artist members in one of the fastest growing regions in our country.

2018 marks the 49th year of the Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild’s annual November event.  The Carolina Artisan Craft Market is a trusted resource for art collectors and first-time buyers looking for the finest contemporary and traditional craft being made in America. 

Fine craft artists present a striking variety of glass, ceramics, wood, both wearable and decorative fibers, metal, leather, basketry, printmaking, photography and 2-D and 3-D mixed media, as well as one-of-a-kind handmade furniture and jewelry.

Emerging and career craft artists who are presenting craft at the highest level – reflecting a mastery of technique and originality of design  are encouraged to apply.

The Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild, a 501 (c) (3) public nonprofit, serves the Southeast by recognizing and promoting outstanding design and craftsmanship, encouraging and stimulating creativity, appreciation and activity, and conducting the region’s major fine designer crafts show.  

The CDCG event is held in Raleigh, NC - a part of the Triangle (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill). Our extensive marketing campaign 3-months leading up to the event continues to build regional response. A special Preview for donors, sponsors and VIPs opens the event Friday with doors opening to the public immediately following with live music, cash bar, and an energetic atmosphere for shopping that drives booth traffic and sales.  A unique raffle of show gift certificates is held daily for all in attendance.

Reserved gravel lot a block and a half from the convention center is available Saturday and Sunday for exhibitors’ vehicles and trailers, and RVs for overnight camping (no water or power hook-ups)

The Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild is a competitive, juried show exhibiting high-quality fine craft. All work must be original and made by the artist. Designer Craftsmen are those who have perfected their craft with a mastery of technique and with originality of design. Design (harmony, unity, opposition, emphasis), quality (technical) and overall execution and presentation (aesthetic) are considered.  The body of work should demonstrate the artist's vision, and when viewed as a whole should be seen as more than the sum of its parts.  We only accept work that is touched by the artist's own hand, not manufactured or commercially reproduced.

Jewelry:  All items must be fabricated by the craftsperson of record and must conform to our standards of excellence in craftsmanship with resolved design and a unique voice or stye.

Mixed Media: Art using MULTIPLE media. This category includes collage, handmade paper, fiber that is not wearable, encaustic, found objects, etc. 2-D and 3-D.
Printmaking:  multiple originals where the artist’s hand has manipulated the plates, stones, blocks, composite reliefs, or screens and which are properly signed and numbered in limited editions.  Photocopies, giclées, or offset reproductions are not permitted. 
Photography:  Art using a camera, including black and white or color digital or original prints from negatives. Prints must be made from the Artist's original work, be processed by the Artist or under the Artist's supervision, properly signed and numbered.
  • Digital Photography Art: Includes any original work in which the original image, or the manipulation of other source material, was executed by the artist using the computer. (Digital photo editing within the confines of what could be done in the darkroom is allowed in the photography category.) Work must be in editions, signed and numbered, on archival papers, inks, and emulsions.

We do not accept watercolor, acrylic or oil paintings; drawings in ink or charcoal on paper or canvas; commercial photography or mechanical reproductions. Neither are objects made from kits, imported, commercially manufactured, cast from commercial molds, purchased bisque ware, embellished (painted boxes, china, furniture, ready-made clothing).  Artists cannot represent a consortium. Absolutely NO buy-sell.

The 2018 guest juror(s) will be annouced soon.   

CDCG will maintain the highest standards in professional artistic leadership to conduct the jurying.  To make the process as fair as possible, digital images are reviewed in a blind jury process as the identities of artists are not disclosed.  All images submitted must be anonymous and cannot include identifying markings or signs of any kind. Applicants not in compliance with this requirement will be asked to make adjustments to their images; refusal to do so will result in disqualification from the jury process.
  • 6 total images, minimum 300 dpi, (with no name or identifying signs visible):  5 images showing excellence in technique, and cohesiveness of design and intent; each piece recognizable as a particular craftsperson's work; 1 image showing a booth display that depicts your current body of work professionally displayed for exhibition and sale. 
Ours is a two-part process: image jury and object jury. Candidates will submit completed applications through Zapplication with images, artist statement and application fee.
  • Image jury is completed digitally (online) and those who have the highest scores will be invited to participate in our event by June 15.
  • Invited artists (known as "Provisional") submit a completed contract to exhibit in the 2018 event no later than August 1.
  • Two hours prior to the doors opening for the Preview, an object jury will take place. The juror and the CDCG Standards Committee will score exhibiting provisionals on their body of work, mastery of media, booth exhibit, and display.
  • Provisionals who pass the object jury are invited (by email following the show) will be invited to become Exhibiting Members of the guild, and will be exempt from the jury process when participating in future Guild events as a member in good standing. Members are required to pay annual dues in the amount of $70. 

All new artists and artists applying in a different medium are required to submit an Artist Statement with their application. This should be no longer than 200 words and should include an explanation of the process(es) used to create your craft. This information is considered by the juror.
Artists working in more than one medium, or who have two distinct bodies of work within the same craft discipline, are required to submit applications for each body of work. Please be aware that multiple applications require an application fee for each submission.

The applying artist understands that the decisions of the Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild (CDCG) and the Jury are final and, if accepted, agrees to abide by the event rules and regulations. 

If accepted, the applying artist must accompany all exhibits on all three days of the event, exhibiting work only in the categories for which the artist was screened and accepted.

We understand that occasionally an artist will need to withdraw from the event after having submitted a contract and booth fees. If you notify the Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild in writing by September 1, your booth fees will be refunded minus a cancellation fee of $100.00.  After this date, there are no refunds. Application fees are non-refundable. Should you choose to not set up your booth on the first day of the event for any reason, you will not be allowed to set up your booth on the second or third day of the event.

Booth Information
Booth fees (starting at $560) include a 10' x 10' booth space (expansion options up to 10' x 20' are available); gray/cream curtains, pipe and one crossbar; private WIFI, and three complimentary coffees during the show. Electricity is a separate fee of $90 for a 120V 20 Amp 2200W electrical outlet.  Artist must provide display and at least 3 light sources. Additional crossbars, carpet, tables, and chairs are available for an extra fee.  No outdoor tents permitted.  Exhibitors are reminded to use professional courtesy by refraining from encroaching on their neighbors either visually or physically.
