Event Summary

Each year the first weekend of August finds thousands of art lovers flocking to the Suttons Bay Marina Park to shop for fine arts and crafts.  This unique region is a popular resort area drawing people from all over the country.  There are an abundance of retirement and second homes as well as an eclectic year round population.

Suttons Bay is in an area of the country where an enthusiastic and sophisticated appreciation for the arts is the norm.  The quality of our exhibitors and extensive marketing throughout the region makes our show a destination for both visitors and residents. The fair is set on a grassy area next to our beautiful Lake Michigan beach.  The stunning location makes the event a fun and profitable artist-friendly event.  The previous week’s Traverse City Film Festival draws an international crowd.

A carefully chosen group of knowledgeable jurors select the exhibiting artists.  A committee of volunteers oversees the distribution of funds generated by the event.  Thousands of dollars are contributed each year to local arts-related education projects.  These include music and dance performances, artist-in-residence programs and scholarships for local art students.

Our show offers one hundred artists along with community groups, food vendors, the local library's annual book sale, and a children’s art area, all making this a perfect place to spend an art-filled weekend at the beach.  Join us on Sunday morning for a free-to-artists breakfast and live music.

  • NOTE - booth fee may not be paid through zapplicaion
  • Awards - Up to four jury awards will be presented on Saturday.  Artists will receive a small cash award and will be jury exempt for three years.
  • Wait list - The wait list for artists is based on their jurors' score within the category where the opening occurred.  A balanced show is a priority.

Artists understand by applying to the Suttons Bay Art Festival you are agreeing to these specific rules.
  • Artist must be present for the duration of the show and shall represent only his/her own original work.
  • Reproductions are limited to a single bin.  Unframed originals may be included in the bin along with reproductions.
  • Your booth appearance and work must be representative of the images you juried with. 
  • Absolutely no buy-sell is allowed.
  • Commercial molds, patterns, kits, copies, etc. will not be accepted.
  • Artists selling jewely in addition to their main media must jury it separately.
  • Artists may not drive a vehicle on the marina park grounds, so be prepared to carry/cart your artwork and display.  Some carts may be available.
  • No overnight camping in the marina or parking lots.
  • No dogs allowed in the marina park.
  • No refunds for cancellations after June 15th.
  • We view your application as a serious commitment to participate.

  • Booth Fees - booth fee checks (payment by check only) must be postmarked by April 24, 2017.

  • Each participant will be allotted an approximate 10'x10' square on grass or concrete. 
  • Participants are requested to erect display structures that will withstand winds and crowds.
  • A limited number of unique double booth spaces are offered.
