We use media categories to organize artists' images into sensible groups to facilitate the jury’s review. We strive for a balanced show that features a diverse range of high-quality work, and we recognize that neither artists nor our patrons want a show with many vendors exhibiting the same type and style of work. However, we do not use a quota for different categories. We welcome innovative work – if you are not sure which category to apply for, pick the closest one. We will not reject your work because we disagree with your choice of category.
Ceramics: All original clay and porcelain work other than jewelry. No machine-made or mass produced work is permitted.
Digital Art: Any original work for which the original image, or the manipulation of other source material, was executed by the artist using a computer. Work in this category must be in limited editions, signed and numbered on archival quality materials. Traditional photographs taken through a digital media should apply in the photography category.
Drawing: Work created using dry media including chalk, charcoal, pastels, pencil, wax crayon, etc., as well as work made from inks and washes applied by pen or brush.
Fiber: All work crafted from fibers, including basketry, embroidery, weaving, leatherwork, tapestry and papermaking, whether wearable or not. No machine tooling, machine-screened patterns or other forms of mass production are permitted. Likewise, we do not permit factory-produced wearable items, even if the artist modified or enhanced those items.
Glass: Please note that we do not permit mass-produced items, including items made from molds.
Jewelry: All jewelry, whether the work is produced from metal, glass, clay, fiber, paper, plastic or other materials should be entered in this category. No commercial casts, molds or production studio work is permitted.
Metalworks: This category includes all non-sculptural, non-jewelry works crafted from metals.
Mixed Media: This category includes works, both two- and three-dimensional, that incorporate more than one type of material to produce.
New Media: This category includes artwork that makes use of electronic media and technology. It includes projection work, video art, interactive electronic work, new technology work, light sculpture, etc.
Painting: Works created in oils, acrylics, watercolor, etc. are included in this category. Reproductions of the artist’s original work are permitted, so long as (1) the artist displays a substantial quantity of original work in their booth, and (2) reproductions are clearly identified as such. (Please note that we do not require a specific percentage of original work, trusting that the artist will use their best judgment.) We encourage, but do not require, signed and numbered editions of any reproductions. Please define your work in your artist statement and include a description of your process.
Photography: Photographic prints made from the artist's original image, which have been processed by that artist, or under his or her direct supervision, are included in this category. Photogravure, intaglio, and other alternate process techniques used to reproduce the artist’s photographs should apply in this category. Please disclose both their creative and printing processes with your application.
Printmaking: Printed works for which the artist's hand manipulated the plates, stones, wood blocks or screens may be entered in this category. Printmakers are required to disclose both their creative and printmaking processes. Photocopies, giclées, or offset reproductions are not permitted.
Sculpture: This category includes three-dimensional original work done in any medium.
Wood: Original works in wood that are hand-tooled, machine-worked, turned or carved are accepted in the wood category.
ARTIST ACCEPTANCE DATES: We anticipate sending artist acceptance notices as soon as the jury process concludes, for the first wave on or around February 20, 2017 and for the second wave on or around May 1, 2017.
