Event Summary
The 15th Annual Canton Festival of the Arts is presented by the Cherokee Arts Center in beautiful historic downtown Canton, Georgia attracting nearly 10,000 guests.  The festival features the artist market, children’s area, serenity garden and food court plus plenty of entertainment. 

The City of Canton is the county seat for Cherokee County which has earned the title of one of the fastest-growing counties in the Atlanta region.  It is located 40 miles north of Atlanta and 30 minutes south of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  The festival is a fund raiser for the Cherokee Arts Center which promotes and funds arts, artists and art education to create a vibrant arts community.

The festival location provides additional opportunities to stroll the downtown shops and boutiques or dine in one of the many restaurants. 


General Information

FESTIVAL SITE:  Brown Park located next to Canton City Hall is the site of the festival.  The park is one short block from downtown and within walking distance to the free parking deck.  Huge trees fill the park along with a playground and ample bench seating.

DATE/HOURS:  May 19 & 20, 2018, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

ACCEPTED CATEGORIES: Artwork must be categorize as a fine art or fine craft in 2 and 3 dimensional. All must be handcrafted.  Resale or wholesale (buy/sell) are not permitted.  No manufactured, imported items or raw materials will be allowed.  All work will be reviewed by a jury team.  Categories include pottery/clay, furniture, drawing/pastel/graphics, basketry, fiber/weaving/textile, wood, glass, watercolor, oil/acrylic/mixed media, paper, sculpture, printmaking, leather, photography, jewelry and metal.

ARTIST AWARDS:  A panel of three judges will visit each booth on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. Only booths displaying their Artist Sign, provided by Canton Festival of the Arts, will be judged. Winners will be announced at the artist reception on Saturday night.  Awards include: Best of Show - $1000, First Place - $500, Second Place - $300, Third Place - $150, along with 5 Honorable Mentions. All award winners will be automatically acceptance in next year’s festival (fees must be paid) and will be featured on the festival Facebook.

WAIT LIST:   Those not accepted into the show (because of limited booth spaces) will be placed on a waitlist and will be notified as spaces become available.  Checks will only be deposited if space is found.  Anyone not wishing to be on the list can request to be removed from the list.

Rules/Regulations

ARTIST SELECTION:  Submitted work will be judged on originality, aesthetics, design elements, technique, execution, quality and creative use of materials. Artistic excellence is the overriding criterion for artist selection. The jury is made up of working artists and other art professionals. Although materials, dimensions and artist descriptors are available to the jury, the artist names are not.  Decisions of the jury are final. 

Artists may apply in one additional category and provide the appropriate photos and fees.

PHOTOS:  Four (4X6 photos ONLY), 3 - actual work, 1 – outdoor booth display.

ARTWORK EXHIBIT POLICY:  All exhibits must be artist created and all items must be handcrafted.

Exhibiting artists must be in attendance during the entire show.   No commercial agents, dealers or salespeople may operate an artist's booth.  Kits, imported items, commercial exhibits, mass-produced items, mold ceramics, shells, decoupage, crocheting, artificial flowers, etc. are ineligible. Work done by a production studio is not acceptable. 

Unframed quality reproductions of artist-signed two-dimensional originals may be displayed in browse boxes or bins.  Accepted artists may only exhibit work in the medium submitted to the jury.  Works exhibited are expected to be consistent with the images submitted. 

Failure to comply could result in removal from the show without refund or the committee could request inappropriate items be removed from the display.

PARKING:  Parking is available and all participants must park in the designated parking area All vehicles must be removed from the festival loading/unloading area 30 minutes before the festival begins.
 
SECURITY: Management provides after hour security for the festival with the understanding that The Cherokee Arts Center, City of Canton and Creative Event Specialists, LLC, will not assume any liability for lost, stolen or damaged items.

TAXES: Artists retain all revenue from the sale of their work and are responsible for collecting and paying all Georgia sales tax and any additional applicable city, county and federal taxes.  Sales tax in Cherokee County is 6%.

Booth Information

BOOTH:  Artists must furnish their own tent, display tables & skirting.  All displays must be designed, constructed and operated in good taste.  Displays, sales and promotional activities must be confined to artist’s assigned space.  Tent weighting is required, booths are located on the grass.  Any property damage caused by the artist’s actions, display, tent or vehicle will be the sole financial responsibility of the artist.

SPECIAL REQUESTS:  All requests must be listed on the initial application and while the staff will work hard to grant these requests, there are no guarantees. 

SET UP:  Friday, May 18, 2018 from noon – 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 19 from 6:00 – 9:30 a.m.  The check-in tent is located at the corner of E. Marietta St and Elizabeth St. 

GPS address is 251 E. Marietta St. Canton Georgia.  All booth displays must be set up by 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. 

YOU MUST DOLLY IN/OUT

TEAR DOWN:  Tear down may begin at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday; however, vehicles are NOT permitted in the loading zone until the entire booth has been packed up and moved to the loading zone.  All booth items and vehicles must be out of the festival site area by 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.

REFUNDS:  The show is a rain or shine event.  Refunds will not be issued after notifications are sent on March 29, 2018.
