YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO APPLY… to the 51st annual, Summerfair - Cincinnati, Ohio's Annual Fine Arts and Crafts Fair.

Summerfair, one of the nation’s oldest continuing art fairs, has consistently been identified as one of the 200 best shows in the United States by Sunshine Artist magazine during the last decade.

In addition, since 1999 Summerfair has received three Artists' Choice Awards from the National Association of Independent Artists.

Summerfair is the main fundraising event for Summerfair Cincinnati, a nonprofit 501(c)3, with a mission to support young artists, individual artists and small and mid-sized community based arts organizations through awards, scholarships and exhibitions.

STANDARDS & SELECTION PROCESS

Only top quality artists and craftspersons are accepted to exhibit at Summerfair.

Eligibility:
  • All work exhibited must be original art produced by the artist. Work produced with commercial kits, molds, patterns, plans, prefabricated forms or other commercial methods is not permitted.
  • Tie-dye, decoupage, dough art, velvet painting, dried flower arrangements, or commercially-produced prints or computer graphics are not permitted.
  • Sales of food items, even if pictured in images, will not be permitted.
  • Machine-made offset reproductions of work originally executed by the artist may not be represented as original work.
  • Signed and numbered reproductions are permissible if limited to 500 and the original is on display.
  • Exhibitors will not be permitted to advertise or hand out materials for any religious or political group.
  • Summerfair Cincinnati, Inc. members are not eligible to exhibit.

Jury Process:

Images are reviewed by a panel of judges selected by Summerfair. The panel is comprised of artists and art educators with expertise in the categories offered at Summerfair. The five images will remain anonymous and will be viewed by the judges to evaluate each artist's overall work. Each judge will independently grade each entrant and a cumulative score will be developed. All decisions will be based on the representation of the works in the images submitted, so high quality photography is recommended. Judges' decisions are final and confidential.

Summerfair reserves the right to refuse exhibition of work not consistent with submitted images and application rules or guidelines. Failure to comply may result in the exhibitor's removal from the show (with no refund of fees) and the exhibitor's right to exhibit in future Fairs may be refused.

Artist Responsibilities: 

Each artist or craftsperson is responsible for:
  • Setting up and dismantling their display.
  • Being ready at the appropriate time for judging.
  • Maintaining and staffing their booth. Representatives may not attend in place of the artist.
  • All sales transactions.
  • Payment of all sales taxes.
  • The artist presence during the fair is REQUIRED!
  • Photo ID is required at check-in.

To Apply: 

Applications will be accepted only through the Zapp system. Application must be completed by Sunday, February 4, 2018. Incomplete applications and/or applications received after this date will not be processed or accepted.
  • Now, ZAPPlication has made it possible for you to apply in more than one medium category from just one ZAPPLication profile. This eliminates the need for you to maintain separate profiles if you wish to submit in more than one category for Summerfair.   • Up to three separate applications may be submitted per artist, each having its own $35 registration fee and set of 5 images. If an artist is selected to exhibit works in more than one of these three mediums they may exhibit the selected mediums within the same booth space or purchase adjoining booths. (please advise of this need)
  • Only one artist may exhibit in each space at Summerfair. If two or more artists work together in producing a single product, they may apply as an exhibiting team and occupy one space during the Fair.

All fees must be paid through ZAPP by credit card only:
  • Application Fee - $35
  • Booth Fee
    • $450 for single space (10' x 10')
    • $900 for a double space (10' x 20')
  • Canopy Fee - $150 

The application fee is non-refundable.

Images:
 
  • Five (5) digital images are to be submitted for each individual media category entered by the artist. These images should not include any artist identifying marks. Do not submit a booth image. Please provide a clear description of the medium, including materials and technique. This information is used by the judges.

Booth Canopies:
  • A covered booth space is recommended. Booth canopies are available for all days of the Fair for $150 which must be ordered and paid for upon acceptance. The canopy is freestanding and allows complete access through the front of your booth. They are approximately 8' high and fit in the booth space. Summerfair will arrange set up of the canopies prior to your arrival. Artists can use their own canopies or enclosures as long as they fit in the booth space.
Location Requests:
  • Location requests will be honored whenever possible, but not guaranteed. Site layout changes may affect location requests.

CATEGORY DEFINITIONS

NOTE: All work exhibited must be original art produced by the artist. Work which has been produced with commercial kits, molds, patterns, plans, prefabricated forms or other commercial methods is not permitted.

2D & 3D Mixed Media - This category includes works, both 2 and 3-dimensional, that incorporate more than one type of physical material to produce. Includes non-sculptural work as determined by the artist.

Ceramics - All original clay and porcelain is accepted in this category. No machine-made or mass produced work is permitted. If multiple pieces of the same design are displayed each piece must be signed.

Digital Art - This category includes any original work for which the original image, or the manipulation of other source material, was executed by the artist using a computer. Work in this category must be in limited editions no greater than 500, signed and numbered on archival quality materials. This category presumes the end result should be considered computer art and not a photograph. Images may include works which begin as computer generated images, scanned artwork or objects, and photographs which have been altered to resemble another medium. Traditional photographs taken through a digital media should apply in the photography category.  

Drawing and Printmaking - Works created using dry media (i.e. chalk, charcoal, pastels, pencil, and wax crayon) or fluid media (i.e. inks and washes applied by pen or brush,) belong in this category. Printed works for which the artist hand-manipulated the plates, stones or screens, and which have been properly signed and numbered as a limited edition of no more than 500 prints, may be entered in this category provided the original is on display. Printmakers should disclose both their creative and printing processes. Hand-tinted prints belong in printmaking sub-category.

Fiber and Leather - All work crafted from leather and fibers, wearable or decorative, including but not limited to basketry, embroidery, weaving, tapestry, papermaking, traditional toy doll-making and free-standing (soft) sculpture belong in this category.

Glass - No forms of mass production are permitted.

Jewelry - All jewelry whether the work is produced from metal, glass, clay, fiber, paper, plastic or other materials should be entered in this category. No commercial casts, molds or production studio work is allowed.

Painting - Includes works created in oils, acrylics, watercolor and pastels. Hand-tinted prints are judged in printmaking sub-category.

Photography - Both traditional and digital photography will be accepted. Photographers should disclose both their creative and printing processes (for digital images, this includes specific programs utilized).

Sculpture and Metal - Sculpture sub-category accepts any three dimensional work, in the round or in relief, formed by carving wood, chiseling stone, modeling clay or casting metal. Metal sub-category is for any work formed by bending, cutting, welding or wiring together metal pieces, sheets and tubing; the finished work may be a sculpture, but is not considered to be sculpted because it is not carved, chiseled and/or cast.

Wood - Original works in wood that are hand-tooled, machine-worked, or turned are accepted in the wood category.

THIS YEAR (2018 Fair):  Insurance 
Upon acceptance Exhibitors must provide Summerfair Cincinnati, Inc. with an appropriate Certificate of Insurance, naming Summerfair Cincinnati, Inc. as an additional insured pursuant to a general liability insurance policy that includes coverage for damages with a minimum coverage of $500,000. This certificate must be received in the Summerfair Cincinnati office (by US Mail or email to info@summerfair.org) WITHIN 30 days prior to the first day of the Fair - by May 3, 2018.  Please make sure that YOUR NAME as it appears on your ZAPPlication registration appears on the certificate for verification.

On or before the April 16th Refund Deadline there will be an Administration Fee of $25 assessed for a cancellation. At its sole discretion, Summerfair reserves the right to waive the fee for a good cause shown.

After the April 16th Refund Deadline a refund will be given only after Summerfair approves reasons and/or the booth space has been refilled. There will be an Administration Fee of $75 assessed for all withdrawals or cancellations. This assessment will be deducted from the booth space refund payment. At its sole discretion, Summerfair reserves the right to waive the fee for good cause shown.
 
VIEW LEGAL AGREEMENT
