Event Summary
Held as a fundraiser for the tiny historic island called Pigeon Key in the tropical Florida Keys, this two-day juried event attracts exemplary artists and quality buyers from across the globe.  The festival takes place at the Marathon Community Park, MM49, Marathon FL. and offers more than 70 fine artists and craftsmen, delicious local cuisine, live art and auction. This year we will expand the historical reenactments, period entertainment and educational programming highlighting the Pigeon Key Foundation’s important projects.Complete the form below to apply for artist exhibit space.

•Each artist is encouraged to donate an original piece of art, of their choosing, for the Pigeon Key Foundation FUNDRAISING raffle.
•Artists are invited to enter a piece in the live auction Saturday evening. We offer a 50/50 split on art that sells and you set the minimum bid. Art submitted in advance with description, photos and reserve will be promoted in the auction program, website and on social media. Sales tax will be collected.

Artist Awards
New for the 25th Anniversary of the Pigeon Key Art Festival, we will be awarding beautiful, eye catching ribbons that will help draw people into your booth. Ribbons are proven to help sell artist’s work.

One - Artist Favorite - selected by attending artist by secret ballot
Ten - Awards of Distinction – additional awards to recognize great artists in the show, and to help the artist sell his/her work
Awards are given at judges’ discretion based on same rules for jurying. All award winners, regardless of award level, receive a ribbon and are automatically invited to participate in the following year’s event and the jury fee is waived. Winning artists will be recognized during the Art Auction and Concert Saturday evening.

The jury will not accept any Buy/Sell vendors or work produced by anyone other than the artist applicant (assistants may not create or assemble pieces based on the artist's guidelines).
Booths may only display items in the category applied for.
Booths may only display works from the artist applicant.

Categories and Guidelines​

Ceramics: All original clay, terracotta, earthenware, stoneware and porcelain work other than jewelry is accepted in this category. No machine-made or mass produced work is permitted. Each item must be signed.

Contemporary Fine Crafts: An original artistic creation having utilitarian value that should demonstrate a high degree of hands-on craftsmanship utilizing skill and care. The creation process and materials used must be disclosed. Examples: Toys, dolls, candles, cutlery, furniture, soap etc.

Culinary: Artisan hand made culinary offerings

Digital Art: This category includes any original work for which the original image, or the manipulation of other source material, was executed by the artist using a computer. Work in this category must be in limited editions, signed and numbered on archival quality materials. Traditional photographs taken through a digital media should apply in the photography category. This category presumes the end result should be considered computer art and not a photograph. Images may include works which begin as computer generated images, scanned artwork or objects, and photographs which have been altered to resemble another medium. Examples include, but are not limited to: digital composites and non-photographic images.

Drawing: Original work using dry media made with chalk, charcoal, ink, pastel, wax crayon, fluid media ink, markers, pencil, or pen or other drawing materials or combinations thereof.

Fiber: 2D or 3D wearable and non-wearable original work made of a fibrous material. Includes basketry, embroidery, weaving, tapestry, papermaking, leatherwork and fine wearables. No factory or mass-produced pieces are allowed. No factory produced wearable items, regardless of additional modification or enhancement by the artist, may be exhibited.

Glass: Functional and/or sculptural objects created by blowing, casting, kiln, or molding as well as all cold working processes. (Does not include Jewelry) No forms of mass production are permitted.

Jewelry SOLD OUT: Original jewelry and handmade components made from precious and non-precious metals, gemstones, enamel, glass, clay, fiber, etc. for their work. No commercial casts, molds, settings, or production studio work is allowed. Designers and artists who use a majority of purchased and mass produced beads and findings will not be accepted. Please check with the director if you have questions about your work. To display and sell jewelry in your booth you must have juried in jewelry category.

Metalwork: Original, functional and non-sculptural metalwork. Includes all artwork created through casting, forging, twisting, and fabricating various metals. (Does not include Jewelry). No production studio work is allowed.

Mixed Media: 2D or 3D original work that incorporates works employing more than one medium that is non-sculptural. Original and water media painted over fabrics or other materials to achieve textures and effects. Includes basically flat materials such as rice paper, newspaper, photographs, cloth, string, etc. adhered to a flat surface. When the result becomes three-dimensional, it could be considered a relief sculpture or assemblage and be categorized as sculpture. Mixing two or more media from the same category does not constitute mixed media. Example: watercolor and thinned acrylic. Work done on the computer or photographs altered by painting over it are not categorized as mixed media.

New/Emerging Artist (NEA): This category is for artists who are between the age of 18 to 29 years old and who have never exhibited or sold their work at an outdoor arts festival. The PKAF reserves the right to research applicants to determine if they are qualified for this program. NEA accepted applicants receive: Free 10x10 booth space; Half-price Jury fee; Eligible for ribbon awards; All Artist perks (booth sitters, continental breakfast; website listing, hospitality room)

New Media: This category includes artwork that makes use of electronic media and technology. It includes projection work, video art, interactive electronic work, new technology work, light sculpture, etc.

Painting:  Oils & Acrylics: Original oil and/or acrylic paintings done on canvas or other non-paper substrate, (e.g. Masonite). Art prints produced by the artist executed by monoprint, hand pulled serigraph, lithograph and similar must be labeled as such. Flip bins for commercial prints must fit within the artist’s booth and must be clearly marked to maintain clarity with the public.

Painting:  Watercolors/Pastels: Original watercolors, gouache, and acrylic works done on paper or watercolor canvas, Also includes water media employing both regular watercolors and thinned acrylic mixtures. Art prints produced by the artist executed by monoprint, hand pulled serigraph, lithograph and similar must be labeled as such. Flip bins for commercial prints must fit within the artist’s booth and must be clearly marked to maintain clarity with the public.

Photography: Photographic prints made from the artist’s original film or digital image which have been processed by that artist, or under his or her direct supervision. Photographers must disclose their creative and printing processes. This category presumes the end result should be considered a photograph and not computer art. If this is not the case the image falls into the Digital Art category.

Printmaking: Hand pulled original prints from an original plate, stone block, or screen prepared solely by the artist. Traditional methods accepted include aquatints, etchings, engravings, intaglio, linocuts, lithographs, mezzotints, monotype, monoprinting, relief printing, serigraphs, and block or woodblock prints. All photogravure, photocopy and/or offset reproductions, will be rejected. Print makers are required to disclose both their creative and printmaking processes. 

Sculpture: Original, non-functional, 3-dimensional work of any material. It exists in-the-round and can be seen from all sides. Bas Relief is sculpture that hangs on a wall, usually having one flat side. It is classified as sculpture because it has tactile dimension. Sculpture is defined as a work of art produced by carving, casting, modeling or constructing. Materials used might be traditional such as stone, wood, clay, metal and glass, or less traditional materials such as plastics, paper or cardboard. All sculpture must be original and not cast or created from pre-formed molds or forms. Sculptures cast from the artist’s original work must indicate the number (in the edition) and the size of the edition. If it is an unlimited edition it must be marked as such.

Wood: Original works in wood that are hand-tooled, machine-worked, turned or carved are accepted in the wood category. Functional items are considered appropriate, if the work is in the fine craft category.

Waitlist Policy
Artists may be juried on to the waitlist. Artists need to confirm that they would like to remain on the waitlist, and they will be contacted if a spot becomes available in their category. Artists will be notified of a space opening via phone and email. Once contacted, the artist may accept or decline the invitiation. Their spot will be reserved once the booth payment is received. The week prior to the festival, artists in any category may be contacted from the waitlist.
 


Rules/Regulations
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
•All works of art must be original (limited editions accepted) and attributed solely to display artist.  No proxy exhibitor allowed.
•Original Artist MUST be present in the booth.
•An accepted application is a commitment to exhibit. Jurying results will be sent out no later than Nov 15 and Nov 15.  No refunds will be accepted for cancellation after 12-15-18.
•Each artist is responsible for their own collection of Florida state tax of 7.5% and remittance to the state.
•The show is held outdoors and goes on rain or shine. No credits or refunds will be issued if show is affected by forces of nature beyond our control. Please check our website or contact the office for updates on cancellations resulting from severe weather such as, hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, etc. Please note, we will not cancel a show unless informed by state, city or local officials that it will be in the best interest of safety for all. If it looks like it is going to rain, we will not call a show prior to the event. It will be at the show coordinator’s discretion on site at the time.
•All rules of the Festival will be strictly enforced. Festival committee shall have sole discretion to remove any work and/or artist that does not follow the rules without refund.
•Management reserves the right to disqualify and remove any exhibitor causing problems with volunteers, guests, fellow exhibitors or management.

Applications received after November 01 will be considered upon submission, space permitting.

Setup Information

•Onsite Check-in and set-up begins at 8 am and will close at 4 pm on Friday, February 1.  No exceptions, please plan your arrival accordingly. If you cannot arrive by 4 pm please contact us before Friday at infoSean@Dailyplan-it.net to make other arrangements. Registration will re-open at 7 am on Saturday.
•Booth set-up must be completed prior to 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and must remain open during show hours. Break down cannot begin until after 4 p.m Sunday.  
•Each exhibitor is responsible for their own booth tent. THERE IS NO STAKING ALLOWED. All canopies are required to be white and able to withstand winds and rain and be properly weighted. Properly weighted is AT LEAST 40 pounds per leg and will need more in windy weather. Please, no signage on your tent other than your name
•Based on accepted entries, there will be a minimum of 5' between booths.
•All tents must be professional grade. 
•NO PETS ALLOWED IN THE PARK.
•No electricity will be available but quiet generators are permited.
