Event Summary
Art on the Riverfront is a popular one day exhibit off of the beautiful Grand Haven boardwalk, located on the grounds of the Grand Haven Municipal Marina.  Located close to the Grand Haven Farmer's Market, Sidewalk Sales and downtown merchants, this show is a must for locals and tourists alike.

The 19th Annual Art on the Riverfront is coordinated by the Gallery Uptown with the assistance of a local committee. Questions and comments should be directed to the show director, Brad Patterson.

The Grand Haven Municipal Marina, 101 N. Harbor Drive, in downtown Grand Haven, Michigan – a popular Lake Michigan beach town, 30 minutes from Grand Rapids, three hours from Chicago and Detroit.
Show Dates & Hours:
Saturday, August 17; 10am-5pm
Regardless of weather. All exhibits must be set up by 10am on Saturday and remain open the entire length of the show.
Items sold must be original and handcrafted by the displaying artist(s). The exhibitor must be the designer and creator of the art.
Jury Fee:
$15 non-refundable Jury Fee due with application. Can be paid with credit card online or by check mailed to Art on the Riverfront, 1213 S. Beechtree St., Grand Haven, MI  49417. Application will not be processed until payment is received. If payment is not received before the deadline, the application will be considered late, incur an additional fee and/or will not be accepted. Make check payable to “Brad Patterson.”
Booth Fee:
Upon acceptance, the $100 booth fee will be due June 1st and may be paid by credit card or check, mailed to Art on the Riverfront, 1213 S. Beechtree St., Grand Haven, MI  49417. Make check payable to “Brad Patterson.”  If booth fee is not received by June 1st, artist may be removed from participating list and placed on a waiting list. A limited number of double booths ($100.00), waterfront/boardwalk ($25) and corner($25) booths will be available upon request for additional fees as noted.

Other Fees:
There is a $25 charge for returned (NSF) checks.

Artist Amenities:
  • Artist Awards:  $700.00 in Total.  Artists to win “Best in Show”, "2nd Place", "People's Choice", "Gallery Uptown Award" and "Poster Contest Award".  These will all be selected by onsite jury, excluding the poster contest, and will be invited to participate in Art on the Riverfront 2020 without jury.  "Best in Show" will receive a free booth in 2020.

  • Roaming Booth Sitters to allow for artist breaks.
  • Artist parking reserved close to the show.
  • Complimentary invitation e-postcard to be sent to your contacts.
  • Booth sign for easy identification for customers.


Application Process:
Application must be fully completed and jury fee payment must be received before the application will be processed. Deadline is April 1st. Three digital images of work plus one digital image of the outdoor booth display are required.
Artists will apply in one of the following categories. 
Clay: Functional or sculptural, original clay or porcelain work.
Digital Art: Original work in which the original image, or manipulation of other source material, was executed by the artist using the computer.  Work must be in editions, signed and numbered.
Drawing: Work created using dry media including chalk, charcoal, pastels, pencil, wax, crayons, etc. or from a fluid medium of inks and washes applied by pen or brush.
Fiber: Wearable or decorative work including basketry, embroidery, weaving, leatherwork, tapestry, papermaking. No forms of mass production are accepted.
Glass: Works that are functional or decorative and are kiln-formed, crafted by glass blowing, molding or casting.
Jewelry: All jewelry, no matter the medium must apply in this category. Only those artists accepted in the jewelry category may display or sell jewelry.
Metal: Sculptural or functional work using metal as its primary medium.
Mixed Media: 2D and 3D work which combines materials from two or more mediums in one piece.
Painting: Acrylic, oil and watercolors apply to this category.
Photography: Film and digital files used to create photographs from the artist’s original image. Work must be
printed by the artist or under the artist’s direct supervision.
Printmaking: Only hand pulled original prints; must be in limited editions, signed and numbered.
Sculpture: 3D work using additive or subtractive processes in a single medium.
Wood: Primary material is wood, either functional or decorative.
Collaborators participate in both the creation and the production of the work; they are not assistants, business partners, employees, apprentices, or part of the production studio. All work displayed must bear the names of both collaborators. No more than two collaborators will be accepted, both collaborators must be named on the application. Both collaborators must check-in and be present for the entire show.

Acceptance Process:
Those artists selected to participate by the jury will be notified by email and through Zapplication.org by May 1st. Artists must respond and submit the booth payment by credit card or check no later than June 1st. If an artist does not submit payment by this date, it will result in reversal of the invitation and permit the invitation of an alternate artist on the waiting list. Checks should be made out to "Brad Patterson" and sent to Art on the Riverfront, 1213 S. Beechtree St., Grand Haven, MI 49417.

Cancellation Policy:
Cancellations received after acceptance will not receive a refund. 

Artist Attendance:
The artist(s) must be present for the entirety of the show.
Set Up & Registration:
Registration and set up will begin at 6am Saturday morning.

Sales Tax:
Artists are responsible for collecting, reporting and submitting the sales tax of 6% to the State of Michigan.
Booth Space:
Booth spaces are approximately 11’ wide x 10’ - 11' deep on grass on the grounds of the Grand Haven Municipal Marina. 

Artists are required to provide their own tent for set up as well as necessary racks, tables, and fixtures for their display. Tents are required to be weighted, weights will not be provided by Art on the Riverfront. Artists are not allowed to stake their tents. Any property damaged caused by the artist's action, display, tent or vehicle will be the sole financial responsibility of the artist.
All trash and debris must be removed from the artist's area before exiting the grounds. We ask that the artists please leave the area in the same, if not better condition, than when the artists arrived.
Show Weather:
Art on the Riverfront will take place rain or shine, so artists must be prepared for inclement weather. In the event that severe weather is in the forecast, the Art on the Riverfront committee has the right to close the show early. Should this happen, no refund will be given.

  1. All artwork must be the original, handcrafted work of the displaying artist.
  2. Buy/Sell vendors are strictly prohibited. Artwork will not be permitted if it is created from non-artist made molds, kits or other commercial methods. Artwork produced in studios involved in volume production will not be permitted, nor will work that is mass-produced or ready-made items (clothing, furniture, etc.) with artistic embellishments. 
  3. The displaying artist must be present for the entirety of the show, with the exception of short reasonable breaks. No agent or representative may stand in for the artist.
  4. The work of only one exhibitor may be displayed in each assigned booth space, with the exception of artist collaborators. Please see “Collaborator” section for more information. Both collaborators must be present for the entirety of the show.
  5. Artists may display artwork only in the category in which they were accepted. All artwork displayed in the booth must be comparable to artwork shown in images. Ineligible work will be removed from the show. 
  6. No ribbons from other events may be displayed.
  7. Artists closing their booth prior to the end of the show will not be permitted to return.
  8. Each artist is responsible to collect, report and pay the State of Michigan sales taxes at 6%.
  9. A booth sign will be provided at registration. This sign must be prominently displayed at your booth during the entirety of the show.
  10. Three (3) images of the artwork plus one (1) of the booth must be submitted with the application. The show organizers reserve the right to use one or more of these images for marketing purposes, including social media.
