Event Summary
Art and Book Fair, 60th Annual, 2019
Presented by the Friends of the Wichita Art Museum

This will be our 60th Anniversary of the Wichita Art Museum's Art & Book Fair and we are planning to make this year's event the best ever!  We are working on some new crowd-pleasing additions to the show as well as continuing our expansion of advertising and promotion.

The WAM Art and Book Fair is a Mother's Day tradition for many in Wichita and we want that tradition to continue. We are building our show on quality, not quantity. There will be entertainment, food trucks and the popular Book Fair located inside the Art Museum. Artist's booths will be outside, on pavement and we will have security on the grounds at all times.

Jury complete by February 28, 2018

Show Date 2019/Times:
May 10: (Artist setup day)
May 11: 10 am - 5 pm
May 12: 11 am - 5 pm

This is a juried event. All works of art must be original and created by the applicant, and images must be clearly representative of the work shown in the jury process as well as works brought to the fair.  We are making an effort to upgrade the overall quality of this show from the past years.  As a result of that effort, we will be slowly building the number of quality artists and not just filling spaces.

A participant whose display contains commercially-made items, slip cast ceramics, or products that are wholly or in part made by others or repetitive works from patterns and molds will be asked to remove those items from the display. Artists who copy another work of art must title the resulting painting, sculpture, etc. as "A study after...". Commercially-printed reproductions of your two-dimensional works must be clearly marked as reproductions.

ALL BOOTHS MUST BE MONITORED.  Volunteers will be available for booth watching for artists' breaks and to provide water and support for the artists.  Artists must provide their own canopies and adequate weights to assure safety of all participants.  All boths will be located on pavement.  Area behind each booth space will be available for storage of extra merchandise.  Layout of the booth spaces will be provided.  Every booth space will have the front and at least one side open for art display.
Cooperative or “Group” exhibits must apply manually. Jury criteria are at the discretion of the Art and Book Fair general committee.  No raffle of artwork or any other items will be allowed.

Awards will be presented to the artists selected by the judges: BEST OF SHOW and other categories. Works chosen will be viewed in the context of the body of work exhibited. The judges may also elect to make an award on the basis of the artist's overall presentation rather than in recognition of specific work.

Booth Space:
Participants are provided a 10' x 10' booth space and will need to bring their own display set up. ALL BOOTH SPACES WILL BE OUTSIDE the Wichita Art Museum. Artists are to provide their own canopies, display materials, racks and/or tables as well as fixtures in order to display their work. Electricity is not available for this day time show. No generators will be allowed.  Battery powered lighting may be used if needed.

For matters of safety, pedestrian traffic and aesthetics, artists must keep all personal items and supplies inside or behind the booth space only. No chairs, tables, display or other personal items may extend beyond the front of the booth space.
Special exhibits authorized by the fair staff are exempt from this rule.

Booth Fees:
Regular booths are $275.  Double booths are available for $500.  Electricity will not be available. Artists may provide their own battery powered lights, if desired, but no generators will be allowed. The show is during daylight hours and parking lot lights will provide overnight lighting.

Booth Set Up:
Set-up will be Friday, May 10th from 10:00 am to dark.  You must check in at the information desk by 5 pm on Friday. Limited set-up on Saturday from 8:00 to 9:30 am may be accommodated based on hardship only and must be approved by the committee.  All vehicles must be removed from the exhibit area by 9:30 am.  No overnight parking or camping in the Art Museum parking lot will be permitted, by order of the City of Wichita.  All trailers and artist vehicles must be moved to the designated Artist Parking for the duration of the show.
