Event Summary
The Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture (MAC) presents its 34th Annual ArtFest May 31 to June 2, 2019. Join more than 150 local and regional artisans featuring unique, handmade art at Spokane’s premiere art festival. Each year 20,000 patrons look forward to attending this high quality, juried art event.  Held the weekend after Memorial Day, ArtFest is the unofficial beginning of summer in Spokane and an Inland Northwest tradition for the entire family. We are committed to showcasing handmade excellence and supporting artists and craftspeople. Since 1985, ArtFest has been connecting our community to the world of art, craft, & design! 
Application submission will close March 1, 2019, (3/1/19). Accepted artists will be notified by March 16, 2019.

Media Categories
Ceramics: Original ceramic clay and porcelain work. May not be machine-made, commercially molded or mass produced. All ceramic forms and glazing must be created by the artist or under his/her direct supervision.

Cottage Crafts: Traditional crafts historically considered functional and may include soap, candles, beadwork, needlepoint, cross stitch, quilting, brooms, dolls and toys, calligraphy, pressed flowers and pre-packaged foods. Wearable fibers in this category include hand painted or modified fabric not made by the artist. ArtFest 2019 will provide a special area for all cottage crafts booths.

Digital Art: Original works created by using traditional or computer design tools to manipulate original images created by the artist. Traditional photographs taken through a digital media should apply in the photography category.

Drawing: Works created using dry media including chalk, charcoal, pastels, pencil, wax crayon, etc. or from the fluid medium of inks and washes applied by pen or brush are to be entered in this category.

Fiber Art: Work crafted from fibers including basketry, embroidery, weaving, rug making, tapestry and papermaking. Wearable fiber art (i.e. hats, scarves, shoes, clothing, belts, purses, etc.) should apply in the Cottage Crafts category. No factory produced wearable items, regardless of additional modification or enhancement by the artist, may be exhibited in this category. 

Furniture: Includes all original handmade furniture.

Glass: Blown, fused, cut or sculpted original works in glass. Glass jewelry must apply in Jewelry category. No pre-manufactured, molds or mass production work is permitted, regardless of additional modification or enhancement.

Jewelry: All jewelry, regardless of medium, must be entered in this category. All jewelry must be designed and made by the artist. No commercial casts, molds, settings or production studio work is allowed.

Leather: All handmade leather items are to be entered in this category. No machine-made or mass produced work is permitted.

Metalwork: Includes all metal sculpture, non-jewelry works crafted from metals. No production studio work is allowed.

Mixed Media: Includes works that incorporate more than one type of material.

Music/Instruments: Includes handmade musical instruments.

Painting: Original works in oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc. A small number of limited edition prints on museum quality paper, signed and numbered will be allowed.

Photography: Includes traditional film photography, hand-colored images and emulsion transfers that have not been excessively manipulated to achieve results beyond what could be done in a traditional darkroom. Prints of photographs made from the artist's original negative must be processed by the artist or under the artist's direct supervision. Photographers are required to disclose both their creative and printing processes.

Printmaking: Hand pulled original prints that are signed and numbered in limited editions by the artist. Printed works for which the artist hand manipulated the plates, stones or screens.

Wood: Original works in wood that are hand-tooled, machine-worked, turned or carved, excluding furniture.


  • All artwork must be original from concept through completion. 
  • Artists may not exhibit or sell work by other artists.
  • No commercial production (such as commercial bisque ware) or student work will be accepted. 
  • Artists must be present during the show.  Artist’s partners are acceptable; however, agents and dealers are not allowed.
  • No booth sharing is allowed.
  • Tents must be secured with weights – The park does NOT allow stakes to be used to secure your tent. Stakes in the ground will damage the irrigation system in the park.
  • No musicians are allowed to perform without signed agreement and payment.
  • All restrictions will be enforced by the ArtFest Committee.
  • Artists must follow all participation rules.

ArtFest is held at Coeur d’Alene Park in the historic Browne’s Addition neighborhood in Spokane.  City of Spokane Parks Dept. has restrictions regarding park use. Driving on park grounds is NOT allowed. Please plan accordingly to transport materials (rolling carts, etc). Plan to secure your tent with weights. Stakes damage the irrigation system and are NOT allowed in the park grounds.
