Event Summary
Oktoberfest, held on the grounds of The Dayton Art Institute, features artisan vendors, international food, domestic, international and craft beers and continuous live entertainment on two stages.

General Information
The Dayton Art Institute is pleased to announce an open call for entries for the 48th annual Oktoberfest to be held September 27-28-29. Hours for the event are 7pm to 11pm Friday, noon to 11:30 pm Saturday and noon to 7pm Sunday. Vendors are permitted to close at 11:00 PM on Saturday.

Celebrating its 48th year in 2019, Oktoberfest is the largest fundraising event for The Dayton Art Institute. This popular annual festival, to be held September 27, 28 and 29, 2019, is organized by the museum's Associate Board and draws nearly 30,000 people to The Dayton Art Institute grounds during a three-day period. The event kicks-off with the popular Preview Party on Friday evening, which is attended by more than 2,000 museum and community leaders.

Beginning at noon on Saturday, crowds of people come to view the offerings of art and craft vendors, enjoy the culinary delights of food vendors, sample a variety of domestic, international and craft beers, enjoy continuous live entertainment and participate in a number of family and kids activities.

* Please note: we must strictly adhere to all deadlines. If you are not registered by the due date, you will not be part of the jury. If the booth fee is not received by the deadline, you will lose your booth place and we will ask the next artist on the wait list.

Jury Fee: $30
Artists are entered into the jury pool upon receipt of jury fee and sample images (see below). You may withdraw your application prior to the jury date. However, all jury fees are non-refundable. Jury fees will be deposited by The Dayton Art Institute upon receipt.
Single Booth Fee: $400 (10x10)
Double Booth Fee: $900  (A limited number of double booths (10x20) are available on a first-come, first-served basis.)
Triple Booth: $1,200 (A limited number of triple booths (10x30) are available on a first-come, first-served basis.)

*Upon acceptance the deadline for booth payment is June 29, 2018. Please do not make booth payment until you have been accepted to the show. Please note there is no buffer around the booth's perimeter. The Dayton Art Institute will make every effort to give accepted artists their preferred booth space. However, there are no guarantees and assigned booth spaces are subject to change.

Table & Chairs Fee: $10
The Dayton Art Institute can provide one eight foot table and two chairs for a nominal charge of $10. Please indicate the number of tables you wish to rent on your application.
Commission: None
Cancellations Fee: $40
Artist must provide written notice of cancellation by midnight July 26, 2019, to receive a booth fee refund minus a $40 cancellation processing fee. Artists canceling after July 26, 2019 will not receive a refund. No exceptions will be made.

Best of Show Award
One artist will receive the Best of Show Award. The award recipient will be invited to return to the 2020 Oktoberfest at no cost (both the jury fee and single booth fee will be waived).
Invitational Artist Awards
Up to three Invitational Awards will be given to selected artists. Award recipients will be invited to return to Oktoberfest 2020 with no jury process or fee required.

Submit five images, four that are representative of your work and one that clearly shows your booth. Artwork will be evaluated on the criteria of skill, originality, impact and design. Please do not submit written or printed materials as they will not be considered by the jury. Artwork shown in your booth shot should be representative of your current work.
Images are the sole criteria considered during the jury process; names, prices and residential information are not provided to jurors. Your five images will be viewed simultaneously, side by side.

  • Booth Sitting - Artists will be provided with complimentary booth sitting service on Saturday and Sunday. Free coffee and donuts will be provided in the morning
  • Parking - One free vehicle pass will be provided per applicant.
  • Indoor Restrooms - Indoor restroom facilities will be available to artists.
  • Electricity - One electrical outlet is available for each artist. Extension cords are not provided.
  • Tented Booth Space - Artisan booth is located under a tented area. (Note: the area many still be susceptible to inclement weather).

  • Oktoberfest is open to all artists 18 years or age or older. Oktoberfest is not conducive to young children. If an artist must bring young children, they must be supervised at all times. Smoking is not permitted within the artisan tents.
  • All exhibited work must be original in concept and must have been created by the accepted applicant. No work made with commercial kits, molds, patterns, plans, stencils or prefabricated forms may be exhibited. Offset reproductions of original art may be sold, but must not comprise more than 20% of exhibited work or occupy more than 20% of a booth space.
  • Each exhibitor's work will be screened by Oktoberfest jurors during the event. An artist whose work does not comply with the rules, or differs from the slides submitted, will be asked to leave. The judgment of the jury will be final, and no refunds will be given.
  • Artists must be present to exhibit and manage their displays during Oktoberfest. Artists are limited to the booth space(s) to which they were assigned; booth space is non-transferable. Any artist who has not been juried into Oktoberfest, or has not paid the jury and booth fees, will not be allowed to exhibit.
  • All sales will be conducted between the artist and the purchaser.
  • Artists responsible for damages to The Dayton Art Institute grounds will be held liable.
  • The Dayton Art Institute retains the right to expel artists or deem them ineligible for awards if they fail to comply with the rules stated above.
