Event Summary
Crooked Tree Arts Center invites you to apply to its 59th Annual Outdoor Art Fair, We are excited to annouce that this years Outdoor Art Fair will be held on the north end of the Civic Center located across the street from the campus of NMC.  This location offers visibility from US 31, public restrooms, food trucks and more.  Participation is open to all artists who exhibit work of original concept, design, and execution.  Our fair seeks to maintain the highest standards for both the artists and for the viewing public. Artists will be selected for the event by the Outdoor Art Fair committee. A panel of three guest jurors (TBD) will select the cash award winners the day of the event.  CASH AWARDS: $500 First Prize, $250 Second Prize, and $100 Third Prize.

The application deadline is March 31. Applicants will be notified on April 8.

General Information
Awards:  There will be prizes awarded for the artistic quality of the artists’ displayed body of work.  First prize will be $500, second prize will be $250, and third prize will be $100. Up to five Honorable Mentions will be named as well. 2019 cash award winners and Honorable Mentions will be pre-juried into the 2020 Outdoor Art Fair, and have their 2020 application fee waived.

Date:  Saturday, July 27, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (rain or shine)

Media:  Painting, Drawing, Collage, Graphics, Leather, Sculpture, Jewelry, Fiber, Wood, Metal, Glass, Photography, Pottery, and Mixed Media will be considered.  Clothing, jewelry, and craft work must be handmade or substantially altered by artistic effort.

Submission Guidelines:  Each applicant must submit four digital images, including three of current work and one of a fully-stocked booth. Artists working in more than one medium must have all media represented in their image set.  Artists working in multiple media do not have to submit separate applications for each medium. Select "Multiple Media" in the application drop-down menu.  

Processing and Booth Fees:  Please include the $30 processing fee with your application, which should be made payable to Crooked Tree Arts Center.  This processing fee is non-refundable and will be cashed when your application is received.  Do NOT send the booth fee at this time.  If you are accepted into the fair, you will be asked to send the non-refundable booth fee of $175.

Sales Tax:  Each applicant is responsible for their own Michigan Sales Tax License.  Contact the Department of Treasury at www.michigan.gov if you need a license.

  • Work using commercial clothing, molds, patterns, plans, stencils, or forms is not allowed. 
  • Only two artists are allowed per booth (both must jury in via separate applications).
  • There is also an opportunity for artists to have a double booth. 
  • No generators allowed.
  • Artists must be present; no agents or representatives.
  • Exhibitors agree that participation is at their own risk.  Applying to the fair means you release Crooked Tree Arts Center, Northwestern Michigan College or Grand Traverse Parks and Recreation, their employees, volunteers, and representatives free from any and all liability, as well as giving Crooked Tree the right to use your name, images, and/or media for promotion.
  • Absolutely no smoking on campus.
  • You may not use tent stakes at either location.
  • Overnight camping at either location is prohibited.
Please assist us by making sure your application is complete, all items on the check list are enclosed, digital images are in the correct format, and the application is submitted on or before March 31, 2019.  Crooked Tree reserves the right to reject late or incomplete entries, or to waive irregularities.

Booth Information
  • Booth spaces are 10' x 10', plus a small storage space in back for each artist.
  • Single booths are $175, and double booths are $350.
  • Up to two artists per booth; both artists must have been juried into the fair via separate applications.
  • Artists must provide their own tents.  Tents must be weighted, not staked.

Fair set up begins the day before the event, Friday, July 26, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and resumes on Saturday, July 27, from 6:30 a.m. through 8:30 a.m. ALL BOOTHS MUST BE READY TO OPEN BY 8:30 a.m.  Golf carts will be available to help with load in and load out hours both days. Artists are responsible for their booth/tent set-up (volunteers will assist with loading/unloading golf carts as they are available).
