Event Summary

WHITEFISH ARTS FESTIVAL

This year will be the 40th annual Whitefish Arts Festival. It is an event that has become a highlight for many over the 4th of July weekend and is sponsored by Whitefish Christian Academy. An annual favorite throughout the Northwest, the Whitefish Arts Festival maintains a long tradition of high quality arts and fine crafts. Whitefish is a picturesque village nestled in the Flathead Valley of Montana featuring beautiful lakes, majestic mountains, and friendly folks strolling the streets during the 4th of July weekend.

Artists from across the country are represented in the Whitefish Arts Festival. Metal sculptures, paintings and photography, woodworking, pottery, jewelry, clothing, and home decorations are just some of the featured fine arts. There is always a variety of Montana style art available.  All art is crafted by the artist.  Exceptions will be made for items that complement an artist's craft (ex. a knife sharpener that is sold by a knife marker).  All such complementary items must be disclosed and approved on the original application.



General Information

The WAF is open to all artists and craftspeople. We invite you to join us for a special weekend! All work must be original and hand crafted by the artist. Commercially made goods or work from kits or a commercial pattern are not permitted. Artists are required to be present for the entire show. The WAF is a juried art festival. Artwork will be evaluated for creativity, quality, originality, and jury preference.

IMPORTANT DATES:

FEB 8: Applications available on Zapplication. 
MAR 11: Applications and a $35 non-refundable application fee are due.  (We are full with alternates in the categories of Jewelry and Canvas Art.  All other categories: Applications will reopen for waitlist only- Tuesday, March 19th.)
MAR 18: E-mail of Acceptance Notifications. (Late/Waitlist applicants will be updated April 5th)
MAR 29: Full booth payment including special requests are due. Late payments may not be accepted.
APR 1: Status update for Wait List Artists
APR 10-17: Late Applications in some categories accepted
Booth setup begins Thursday, July 4th, at 1p.m.-8pm and continues Friday, July 5th from 7:00am-9:30am.
Festival Dates & Times:  Friday & Saturday, July 5th & 6th, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., & Sunday, July 7th, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.



Rules/Regulations

RULES & REGULATIONS

TENTS AND DISPLAYS:Artists must supply all materials needed for their display. We request that all exhibitors use a well-built or commercial grade tent, EZ Up or better. All displays must be designed to fit in the purchased booth space.
NO spikes are allowed. Vendors will pay 100% percent of damages assessed by the City of Whitefish. Use heavy weights or water weights to secure your tent. Be prepared for sunshine, rain, and possible gusty winds.

BOOTH REQUESTS: The Whitefish Parks Department has plans to improve Depot Park including a Gazebo for visitors to relax and enjoy. Due to construction/renovation, Depot Park will be laid out differently in 2019. Please review the map provided to verify that the park will fit your needs.  No refunds will be given based on construction.  Booth/Location requests will be considered in the order they are received, with select artists (artists who have a long history with the Whitefish Arts Festival) spaces to be determined first.

BOOTH SETUP: Begins Thursday, July 4th, at 1p.m.-8pm and continues Friday, July 5th from 7:00am-9:30am.

SECURITY: Professional overnight security will be provided Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.  The Whitefish Arts Festival and/or Whitefish Christian Academy are not responsible for any theft, loss, or damage to artwork or booths at the show.

PETS:

The City Code for no dogs at events is 7.3.3 B.4. 

 

"No owner, keeper, attendant or harborer of any dog, cattle, horses, mules, swine, sheep, goats, fowl or like animal shall allow or permit any such animal in or upon any public park within the city during any organized athletic event, or special event authorized or permitted by the city, providing and excepting herefrom owners of seeing eye dogs or dogs for the hearing impaired."

PARKING:

Remember, we must save room for our customers!
Artists agree not to park within the restricted parking areas of the festival without written approval from festival organizers. Violators will not be invited back to the Whitefish Arts Festival.

RESORT TAX: The resort tax is 3% and applies to many art and food sales.  Visit http://www.cityofwhitefish.org/city-hall/resort-tax.php for more details.


ELECTRICITY: The City of Whitefish has introduced a new policy and will charge for electricity use. Artists requesting 110V electricity will be grouped and there will be a $40.00 per booth fee.

MISCELLANEOUS: The Artisan Food category applies to exhibitors who offer specialty food offerings like bakery items, jams, and artisan specialties. No in-booth preparation allowed other than samples. Current MT Food License required with booth and product photos.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Booth Fees:
Cancellations are difficult and we are sure that no one intentionally plans to cancel after entering into an agreement for any art festival.  However, on our end, the closer we get to the event date, the more time and planning we have invested, and the more difficult it becomes for us to fill your booth space with quality artists or food vendors. In many cases the individuals who could have filled your booth space are no longer available with such late notice.  For that reason, we request that you respect the following dates with regards to cancellation:

Booth Fee Deadline (March 29) thru April 5th:
$25 deduction from your booth fees

April 6th thru May 6th:
$75.00 deduction from your booth fees

May 7th thru June 6th:
$125.00 deduction from your booth fees

June 7th thru show dates:
No cancellation refunds

Make reservations early!
No camping on city streets or empty parking lots. You will be towed!

SPECIAL REQUESTS:
  
We want you to be happy with your space during this festive weekend.  If you have a preference as to placement in the park, whether it is shade, direct sunlight, away from the music, near the stage, perimeter, center, near the food, near a handicapped bathroom, etc, let us know.  We sincerely try and take every request into consideration but please understand that we are working with limited resources and no climate control.  Please review the Depot Park Map for 2019 as the park will be under construction during this event.
