Event Summary
The Creative Arts Guild’s 56th Annual Festival of Arts and Crafts will be held September 20-22, 2019 on the Guild’s campus at 520 West Waugh Street, Dalton, GA 30720

The Creative Arts Guild is Georgia’s oldest multi-disciplinary community arts center. We celebrate our 56th anniversary in 2019.  The Creative Arts Guild is located in northwest Georgia, approximately 20 miles south of Chattanooga TN and 70 miles north of Atlanta. 

FESTIVAL weekend kicks off with our signature Friday event, the FESTIVAL Preview Party and Taste of Dalton. Our patrons enjoy making early purchases from both the Outdoor Artist Market and the Indoor FESTIVAL Exhibit, all while sampling tasty treats from some of Dalton's favorite restaurants.

In addition to the Outdoor Artist Market, FESTIVAL also includes an indoor juried patron exhibit which hangs in the Guild Galleries from September 22 - October 18, children's activities, live music, food vendors, and self-guided tours of the Robert T. Webb Sculpture Garden. Admission is free.

FESTIVAL weekend kicks off with our Friday evening FESTIVAL Patron Party and Taste of Dalton.  Our patrons enjoy making purchases from the FESTIVAL Outdoor Artist Market as well as the Indoor Juried Patron Exhibit housed in the Guild Galleries and sampling tasty treats from Dalton’s favorite restaurants.The Outdoor Artist Market will open 6:30-9:00    as part of the ticketed FESTIVAL Preview Party and Taste of Dalton, Taste of Dalton 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM.   Artists interested in exhibiting in the Indoor Juried Patron Exhibit may find the prospectus on the Creative Arts Guild website http://www.creativeartsguild.org/events/annual-events/festival

FESTIVAL Artist Market Hours
Friday, 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm,  Saturday, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm,  Sunday, 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
Exhibitors are required to remain open during these hours. Volunteer booth sitters will be available all day Saturday and Sunday so that artists can take short breaks. Artists that do not abide by FESTIVAL rules or that do not remain fully open during FESTIVAL hours will be not be invited to return.  

Artists will be responsible for handling their sales and should plan to have change and other financial necessities. Artists will be responsible for collecting and reporting Georgia 7% sales tax. Forms for reporting sales tax will be provided to Outdoor Artist Market artists. The Guild does not charge commission on Outdoor Artist Market sales.

Services to Artists
Booth sitters will be available to relieve artists for short breaks. Creative Arts Guild volunteers provide a continental breakfast for artists on Saturday and Sunday morning. Light snacks and beverages will be available throughout  each day in the Artist Hospitality Room. Artists and a guest are invited to our artist/volunteer dinner at the close of FESTIVAL Saturday evening. 
Night Security
The Guild will furnish outside security Friday and Saturday nights, but exhibitors’ discretion is advised. 

Ceramics: All original clay, raku, porcelain work  No machine-made or mass produced work is permitted. Each piece must be signed.
Children’s Arts: Work that is designed specifically for children. May include paintings, drawings, toys, functional work, etc.  *Children’s Art    exhibitors may be placed adjacent to the Children’s Hill activities.

Digital/Graphic Arts: Work from which the image is created and/or manipulated by the artists using a computer. Work in this category must be original designs and printed on quality materials.  Embellishment of manufactured materials is not permitted. 
Drawing: Original drawings using chalk, pastels, charcoal, pencil, wax crayon, etc.
Fiber/Basketry: Works created from fibers including basketry, batik, weaving, papermaking, knitting and quilting.  Embellishment of manufactured materials is not permitted. 

Furniture: Functional tables, chairs, screens, desks, etc crafted from any material.
: Work that has been hand-crafted by the artist by blowing, fusing, casting or kiln forming.  No pre-manufactured items are allowed.   No mass production permitted.

Handcraft:  Handmade items made by the artist from manufactured, recycled, or repurposed materials transforming the combined materials into a unique product in a cohesive collection. The complete description of items required.

Jewelry: All Jewelry crafted from metal, glass, stone, clay, or other materials.  Commercial molds or casts are not permitted. 
Printmaking: Printed works for which the artist's hand manipulated the plates, stones or screens and which have been properly signed and numbered as a limited edition, may be entered.
Metal: Functional and sculptural work where the primary material is metal.
Painting: Works created with acrylics, oil,  watercolor or gouache.

Paper & Bookmaking: Functional and sculptural work created primarily from paper.

Photography: Photographic prints made from the artist's original negative or digital image. category.

Sculpture: Three-dimensional artwork in any medium.  

Wood: Original works in wood that are built, turned, carved or tooled. Embellished manufactured wood items are not permitted



Open to all artists 18 years and older.

All works must be the original, handmade creation of the entrant. 

Not Acceptable:  imported items, commercial molds, items from kits or patterns, dried flower arrangements, decoupages and decal crafts, machine -made or mass produced items.

Fine art prints/reproductions will be eligible for the Outdoor Artist Market exhibit but may constitute no more than 33% of the artist’s total display and must be signed. Any artwork  produced by any mechanical means, i.e., giclees, photo-offset, or any other reproduction technique must be labeled a “REPRODUCTION" and displayed in bins.
Framed reproductions should be separated from original work in your display and must be clearly labeled as a reproduction.

Booth Information


Application Fee
Each application must include a $25 application payment fee.  Applicants may pay online by credit card through ZAPPlication, or they may pay by check made payable to CAG and mailed to Creative Arts Guild, 520 West Waugh Street, Dalton, GA  30720.  Application fees are non-refundable.

Jury Images Total of 6
Images #1-4 should represent the work you plan to show. Image #5 should represent your display. Image #6 should show artists creating work in  their studio/work space.  

Application/ Jury Process
FESTIVAL Applications will be accepted and juried through ZAPPlication. Artists may also apply by mailing or emailing application.  Applications are also available on the Guild website:   http://www.creativeartsguild.org/events/annual-events/festival  .

The Outdoor Artist Market is presented in two areas: the Guild’s Spigel Pavilion and the Guild Lawn and Sculpture Garden.  The Spigel Pavilion is a covered, partially enclosed area with a concrete floor. The pavilion roof provides a shelter from rain and direct sun while the “walls” of the pavilion are open allowing air to circulate from all sides. The Guild Lawn and Sculpture Garden is an outdoor lawn space and artist booth spaces will be placed amidst the Guild's garden sculptures.

Artist Market Display
Exhibitors are responsible for providing their own displays. White tents should be EZ UP quality or higher.  All tents must be secured with weights. A two-person team or partnership may qualify as a single exhibitor as long as both artists are included on and sign the application. Artists must be present with their work. If you have a specific space request, please make a note on the application. Requests will be accommodated when possible
Creative Arts Guild Spigel Pavilion 
Tents are optional on the Spigel Pavilion. Tents, frames and all display boards must be sufficiently weighted to withstand strong breeze.  Tents and frames may not be staked. Electricity will be available on a limited basis but MUST be requested on your application form. Booths will be a minimum of 10’ x 10’. Many pavilion spaces are “corner spaces”. 

Guild Lawn and Sculpture Garden 
Spaces will measure a minimum of 10’ x 10’ but may be larger. Frames and all display boards must be sufficiently weighted to withstand strong breeze. Tents and frames may not be staked. Electricity is not available on the lawn.

Check In
Outdoor Artist Market exhibitors may check in and receive booth assignments Friday, September 20, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Artists may drive up to most spaces and unload. Vehicles must be moved immediately after unloading. Any artist not arriving or calling the Guild to notify artist delay by 4:00 pm will be considered a no-show and their space will be reassigned.  Artists may request special install times by contacting Leanne Martin, 706.27.6677.

Night Security Watch
The Guild will furnish outside security Friday and Saturday nights, but exhibitors’ discretion is advised. The Creative Arts Guild assumes no responsibility for loss or damage from any cause.
