Event Summary

In a community renowned for its devotion to the arts, Scottsdale has one arts festival that rises above them all. The Scottsdale Arts Festival celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2020 and is an annual weekend-long celebration of creativity. The Festival attracts nearly 20,000 loyal visitors annually, where guests enjoy the best in visual, culinary, cultural, and performing arts throughout the beautiful 20-acre Scottsdale Civic Center Mall. Known for its high-quality art and beautiful park setting, the Scottsdale Arts Festival showcases 170 jury-selected artists from throughout the United States and abroad. Art pieces range from paintings, sculptures, glass, ceramics, jewelry, photography, and other media. Festival artists can participate in an online benefit art auction with original works of art (donations optional). Festivalgoers can listen to live music and entertainment under the sun as a central part of the Scottsdale Arts Festival. At the Community Art Studio attendees of all ages can participate in many art activities and workshops. The Festival brings culinary eats directly to its attendees with a lineup of exceptional Valley gourmet food trucks and eateries. Not to mention the array of fine wines, beers, cocktails and other beverages are for sale. Additionally, the Festival encourages patrons to bring their reusable water bottles and use the City of Scottsdaleā€™s water trailer for an easy refill to stay hydrated.
Proceeds benefit the nonprofit Scottsdale Arts.

General Information

Jury Process
Up to 170 artists will exhibit in the 2020 Scottsdale Arts Festival, including the 14 invited 2019 Festival award winners.
  • The jury views the digital files of the images submitted by the artists on a computer monitor.
  • The jury is comprised of arts professionals—working artists, curators, collectors, and gallerists.
  • The criteria for selection are excellence in concept, quality, workmanship, and aesthetics.
  • The jury assigns points from 1 to 7 (with 4 excluded) to each five-image presentation; points are totaled and those artists with the highest total in each category are selected to exhibit.
  • The jury process is anonymous. Please do not have your name or information in your artist statement, image descriptions, or images.
  • A wait list of juried artists is maintained for each category. Artists will be notified as space becomes available. Please do not contact us regarding wait list status.

Artist Awards
An on-site panel of judges selects one “Best of Show” artist to receive a $1,000 award. Additional merit awards are given to one artist in each category. *Due to possible renovation and construction of the festival site in the future, the Scottsdale Arts Festival may not be held in 2021 and therefore invitations to award winners will be deferred. By the time the 2020 festival occurs we will have more detailed information to share with participating artists.*

Artist Services
The Scottsdale Arts Festival values artists and strives to make their exhibiting experience as enjoyable as possible. Services include:
  • Complimentary continental breakfast and snacks provided in an indoor artist hospitality suite.
  • Roving booth sitters and runners.
  • Four (4) complimentary Festival passes for returning buyers.
  • Discounted hotel rates.
  • Images of each artist’s work on the Scottsdale Arts Festival website.
  • Complimentary admission to Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA).
  • Overnight roving security. (However, no responsibility is assumed by the Scottsdale Arts Festival for the loss of exhibitors’ artwork or equipment.)

Marketing and Promotion
Each year, Scottsdale Arts develops and executes a comprehensive marketing plan for the Festival, which is designed to reach a broad range of visitors and residents interested in the arts, and to maximize sales for participating artists. The plan features strategic advertising across a range of media, including direct mail, print, broadcast and online outlets, and public relations and social media campaigns. Artists are also encouraged to promote their participation in the Scottsdale Arts Festival through their own online and social channels.

**The Scottsdale Arts Festival is not accepting applications at this time from vendors selling artisan goods and handcrafted merchandise such as food items, soaps, lotions, candles, etc. Applications for food trucks and food vendors will be available on our website in October 2019.**

  • Applicants’ work must be of original design and personal execution.
  • Images must accurately represent the artist’s work that will be exhibited. Artists must be present during the entire three-day festival. Representatives may not attend in place of the artist. Commercial agents, dealers, or manufacturers are not eligible.
  • Collaborating artists may apply to participate, but only joint work may be shown and sold. Otherwise, each artist must apply for their own/separate space. Names of collaborating artists must appear on all application materials. If artists apply as collaborating artists, each artist must be on site for the Festival. Only the work of the contracted artist may be displayed and sold.
  • The work must be representative of the images selected through the blind jury process. No kits or works that are produced from commercial plans will be accepted. No posters, postcards, note cards, or promotional products.
  • For jewelry and other small items, a single image may consist of groupings of up to three pieces.
  • One image must be of the booth display; entries will not be considered without a booth image. The booth image is used to judge overall appearance, professionalism, consistency of work, and will assist in the determination of booth placement in the most advantageous location. Please submit an outdoor booth image that does not contain people or artist identification. Artwork images may not contain signatures that will identify the artist.
  • The booth image is a reference. You are not juried in for any work represented in the booth image. You will be juried for the body of work represented in the four (4) images. Any work outside of the medium and context of the four (4) images submitted that may appear in the booth photo would not be considered accepted by the jury, due to its mere presence in the booth image. If artists have multiple bodies of work, they are encouraged to submit separate applications.
  • Artists may submit up to two (2) applications for this Festival. The applications can be submitted in multiple categories and a separate application and fee are required for each category entered. Only one application may be submitted per body of work represented. Multiple applications must represent either work in different media categories or distinctly separate bodies of work within one category. No advantage is gained by submitting multiple applications for the same body of work in multiple categories.
  • Signed and numbered limited edition reproductions of artworks are allowed. Artists must disclose limited edition process on prints. Editions cannot exceed 150 prints. Original art must occupy more than 80 percent of the booth.
  • Images by invited artists may be used by the Scottsdale Arts Festival for marketing, publicity, and on-site judging.
  • Participating artists are responsible for ensuring that their artwork on display is in compliance with state and federal laws regarding the sale of Indian arts and crafts. For information regarding Arizona law, please refer to Title 44, Chapter 9, Article 2.1, Statutes 44-1231 – 44-1231.05 (Fraudulent Practices in the Sale of Indian Arts and Crafts) located at http://www.azleg.gov/arsDetail/?title=44.
