Event Summary
The 19th annual Rancho Mirage Art Affaire is open to all Visual Art disciplines including painting, (oil, watercolor, acrylic), drawing, photography, jewelry, sculpture, collage, assemblage, textiles, mixed-mediums, metal and ceramics and select fine craft in a variety of media and price ranges. Approximately 4000 patrons attend the festival annually.  The Rancho Mirage Art Affaire is open free to the public. The City of Rancho Mirage is located in the Heart of the Palms Springs Valley.  Rancho Mirage Community Park is located at 71-560 San Jacinto Drive, accessible from Bob Hope Drive and Highway 111.  Temperatures from the low 70's to the high 80's can be expected in November.  The Rancho Mirage Art Affaire is a rain or shine event.


General Information
Located in the beautiful Rancho Mirage Community Park, the Rancho Mirage Art Affaire is the first public arts festival of the season in the Coachella Valley featuring 80 - 100 fine artists, live musical entertainment, food, wine and other special exhibits.  The Rancho Mirage Art Affaire is the City of Rancho Mirage's premiere community event, presented by the City's Community Parks and Trails Commission. Participating artists will be selected by a panel based on quality, originality, diversity and display presentation.  Each medium will be limited to ensure a well-balanced and interesting festival.  Artists must be present during the advertised festival hours. No manufactured items, buy/sell imports or prototypes will be considered. Work submitted for consideration must accurately represent work that will be displayed for sale.  Awards are given in categories where there are three (3) or more artists.  A Best of Show award, selected by the Mayor, is presented to the winning artist.  

Award winners from the 2018 Rancho Mirage Art Affaire will be automatically accepted to participate in the 2019 Art Affaire after application and fee have been received.  

A Wait List is maintained and every effort is made to notify Wait Listed artists in a timely manner when a vacancy appears.

Application Fee:  A $35.00 non-refundable fee must accompany each submitted application.  Applicants may pay via Pay Pal, Credit Card or check.  Checks may be mailed to: RANCHO MIRAGE ART AFFAIRE  69-825 Highway 111, Rancho Mirage CA 92270.

The City of Rancho Mirage does not charge a commission on works that are sold during the festival.

Booth Fees/Commitments/Artist Agreement Form/Space Preference Form/Digital copy of SBE Permit Due: Must be received by Friday October 18, 2019 (if by mail, postmarked by Monday October 21, 2019)

  • All work must be original Art work by the invited artist.  Artist certifies authenticity.  No works from kits or other forms of mass production are allowable.
  • No dealers, artist representatives may apply.  
  • All art work must be signed by the maker.
  • All works on display must be for sale.  No more than 25% of works on display may be multiples.
  • All multiples must be signed and numbered.
  • Artists applying in multiple categories must submit separate discipline applications.
  • Artists must only display works in the discipline for which they have been invited.
  • Artists must supervise their individual booth.  Artist assistants are permissible only in a limited basis.
  • Individual artists are responsible for collecting California state and local taxes required by law.
  • Upon acceptance, each artist must provide proof of a valid California State Seller's (SBE) Permit.
  • Out of state artists may obtain a permit at www.boe.ca.gov.
  • Each artist accepting participation in the Rancho Mirage Art Affaire gives the City of Rancho Mirage  permission to use images of artist's work in any and all City of Rancho Mirage Public Relations/Advertising to include printed matter and electronic social media.
  • Weather conditions normally are fair, sunny and warm.  However, artists must be prepared to display works in inclimate weather unless the event is called off by city officials.
The Rancho Mirage Art Affaire is sponsored by the City of Rancho Mirage, under the auspices Rancho Mirage Parks and Trails Commission.  No commission on sales is collected at the Art Affaire.

Booth Information

Single booth fees are $300.00 and double booth fees are $600.00.  There are only a limited number of double booths available.  The majority of booths will be on grass and no electricity is available.  Booth fees will only be collected after an artist has been accepted into the festival. You must provide your own labor and means of transporting your artwork, canopy, tables, chairs and display items to and from your assigned booth location for both setup and strike.   Motor vehicles are not allowed on the grass, only on asphalt pavement surfaces.  All motor vehicles must be moved to the designated artist parking area after set up and during the festival.  

LOAD IN:  Load in for this event will only be allowed on Friday November 8, 2019 from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm and will be done in split shifts, morning or afternoon. Artists will be assigned either an AM (before 12:00 pm) or PM (after 12:00 pm) time slot for load in. 

Standard artists spaces will be 10'x 10'.  There will be a limited number of double booth spaces available. Artists are required to provide all materials required for individual booth set-up.  Artists are required to provide all display components, tables, chairs, etc.  Booths must be anchored properly by gravity in the event of wind. STAKING IS PROHIBITED.

Booth assignments are done by Rancho Mirage Art Affaire staff.  All attempts will be made to honor specific location requests if made. Location requests must note the space number from the previous year.

Returned Check Fee: $50, plus an additional administration fee will also apply
Clay: Art objects, either functional or decorative of earthenware, porcelain or tile, made by shaping and then firing. If multiple pieces of the same design are displayed, the artist must sign each piece.
Drawing: This is two-dimensional work that is made directly by hand using a drawing instrument onto the finished surface.  An exception is an electronic method of drawing via a digitizing device.  It is acceptable to use computer software to create an image that is subsequently printed one time only on a laser or ink jet printer.
Glass: Original handmade stained or etched glass and original handmade blown glass.
Jewelry: Any mix of materials and any method of construction used to create an artificial three-dimensional adornment intended to be worn. Mass produced items may not be exhibited.
Metal Works: Original sculptural or decorative items created in metal. May be painted or unpainted. No commercial or volume production items. All work must be signed by the artist.
Other:  Art that does not fit into any other category listed.
Painting: This category includes two-dimensional images that are not included in drawing, photography or printmaking. This includes all forms of application of paint, dyes and similarly applied materials. This category includes batik and collage. It is acceptable to use computer software to create an image that is subsequently printed one time only on a laser or ink jet printer as a painting.
Photography: This is work resulting from the use of a camera.  One-of-a-kind prints, as well as multiple prints are included.  An image created on photographic paper by direct exposure, without the use of a camera is also acceptable.  Prints made from negatives, transparencies, or digital files and manipulated with computer programs and printed on large scale ink-jet printers are included here.  Collages or assemblages of photographs, made by the artists, are included. There is no requirement to number images.
Printmaking: This category includes any method used to pull an image from a surface (stone, block, plate, screen, etc.) prepared by the artist.  The image may be deposited on any kind of surface (paper, foils, films, cloth, etc.).  Multiple copies may be made each as an original object, where each is numbered and signed.
Sculpture: Any material, or combination of materials, that has more than two-dimensions and is intended to be viewed from more than one side.  Sculpture is usually considered to be non-functional.  Size, method of construction, types or mixes of materials and number of reproductions (as in bronzes) are not limited in the category.
Textile:  Any material, cotton, wool, acrylic, gold, silver, etc. that is woven or bonded in some way that converts the original material to one that is made into a wearable item or a weaving. Factory reproduced wearable items modified or enhanced by the artists may not be exhibited.
