Event Summary
Crooked Tree Arts Center is pleased to present the Merry Makers Marketplace, held indoors at Crooked Tree Arts Center in Traverse City, Michigan, November 22 & 23. An art fair, holiday celebration, and all kinds of fun - CTAC-TC will be transformed into a holiday shopping market with artists' booths, a festive spread of cookies and coffee, and holiday music and cheer!

Founded in 1971, the mission of the Crooked Tree Arts Center is to inspire and enrich lives through the arts. CTAC offers exhibits, concerts, classes, lectures, special events, and much more out of locations in both Traverse City and Petoskey.

General Information
Show Dates:
November 22 & 23, 2019

  • Friday, November 22 from 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM. Artists must be ready for retail opening at 2:00 PM.  Carts, dollies, and volunteers will be available to assist with loading and unloading. 
Show times:
  • Friday, November 22, 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
  • Saturday, November 23, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM 
Application/Acceptance Deadline: 
  • August 1, 2019: Deadline to apply.
  • October 1, 2019: Deadline for invited artists to accept via ZAPP and confirm space in show by paying booth fee in full.
  • Media Images: Up to eight images (photograph of booth required)

Promotion/ Benefits to the Artists:
  • Promotion will begin when you are juried into, and accept your invitation to the Merry Makers Marketplace!
    • Artists will be included/tagged on our website, Facebook page, and email marketing. 
    • Artist names will be listed on promotional flyers posted throughout Traverse City.
    • Select artists may be featured in other print materials, e.g. the CTAC quarterly newsletter.
  • CTAC volunteer crew to help with load in and out.
  • CTAC will provide light snacks and beverages during the event.

Acceptance Criteria:
  • Artists are responsible for their own cash drawer, credit card processing, and sales tax.
  • You must be designer and producer of the work.
  • Your work is DIY craft-oriented. Think Etsy at CTAC!
  • Your items are artfully and professionally represented in your application photos/and or website.
  • All artwork must be handmade, original work, not the work of mass production studios.  No work that has been made with commercial kits allowed.
  • Jewelers must be the designers and hands-on makers of their work (purchased, facet-cut gems may be used/assembled, but pre-fabricated jewelry is not allowed).
  • The Merry Markers Marketplace committee reserves the right to refuse exhibition of work not consistent with submitted images and/or these guidelines.
  • Commercial photographs, giclees and prints are permitted, but must be signed and numbered.
  • Your product, booth design, and application information will be juried for quality, authenticity, uniqueness, salability, and overall presentation.
  • The Merry Makers Marketplace will be marketed as an affordable marketplace for handmade goods, therefore the average price of your items should fall within the $5 - $250 price range.
  • Artists or their representatives must be present with their work for the entire two days of the show.
  • All applications must be submitted online through ZAPPlication at www.zapplication.org.  To be considered, you will be asked to:
    • Create an online artist’s profile
    • Prepare and upload eight digital images of your work and one image of a booth presentation (images must be a minimum of 1920 pixels on the longest side, in .JPG format).
  • Submit a $25 non-refundable application fee
  • Complete the online application and submit it before midnight on August 1st.

Booth Information
  • Booths will be located throughout the first two floors of Crooked Tree Arts Center (we have expaned and have full use of the Carnegie Library!) and will be assigned by CTAC staff.  We are unable to fulfill booth location requests due to gallery space layout changing based on the current exhbition.
  • At your request and by availability, CTAC will provide one 2.5' x 6' table, one chair and one table linen.
  • Additional display pieces and embellishments are allowed for display purposes, but are the responsibility of the artists and must conform to the allotted 8' x 8' space.
  • Tents and canopies are prohibited.
  • Displays may have a maximum height of 6'.
  • Electrical hook-up is available upon request.  Artist must supply own power strip and extension cord.
Standard Booth: approx.  8’ X 8’  - $100; 6' x 6' - $50
  • Shared booths are available.  If artists intend to share a booth, both artists must be included together on a single application.
  • Do not send booth fee until notified of acceptance.
