Event Summary
The Druid City Arts Festival’s (DCAF) goal is to provide a quality arts and music festival, while also educating, engaging, and inspiring both youth and adults about the arts and humanities within the Tuscaloosa community. Throughout the years, many "undiscovered" artists who are now in textbooks, galleries, and museums have exhibited at DCAF. 

DCAF strives to showcase work of exceptional quality and creativity by artists in a variety of areas, which include: contemporary art and sculpture, contemporary craft, traditional/heritage craft, and folk/self-taught artists. 

This year we will be celebrating the 11th annual DCAF. We have decided to honor this celebration of art, music, and food with two days, following the success of doing so last year. Friday, April 3rd, beginning at 6:00 p.m. and ending at 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 4th, at 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All artists are required to stay at their booth for the entirety of the two days. We look forward to having our long-time artists and "undiscovered" artists exhibiting at DCAF on April 3-4th, 2020.  

General Information
The Druid City Arts Festival began as a vision from several Creative Campus freshman students at the University of Alabama, which was to create a festival that promoted the appreciation of the arts, culture, and community in Tuscaloosa. Turning their dream into a reality, the first DCAF took place in 2010 and has continued since. In 2013, a full line-up of musicians performed every hour during the event, 60 artists displayed a variety of work, and approximately 7,500 attended throughout the day.
As the students’ senior year approached, they knew that they had created a staple event in the Tuscaloosa community and wanted to ensure that the festival would continue for years to come.  Along with Creative Campus, Tour De Tuscaloosa, who hosted their first cycling race in 2006, formed a partnership with DCAF upon its founding in 2010. In 2013, Creative Campus partnered with Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports in an effort to make DCAF a long-standing event.  As of 2014, Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports became the event owner to host the 4th Annual DCAF with 10,000 in attendance to watch four different musical acts and over 70 artists. After a successful 2014 DCAF, the number of attendees increased when nearly 12,000 people attended the festival in 2015. In 2016, we had over 13,000 in attendance to watch musical acts, theatre productions, and over 90 different exhibiting artists.

Last year Tuscaloosa celebrated a "Decade of DCAF", ringing in the 10th annual commencement of this wonderful event. With witness to such interest and passion to the culture of arts, we decided to again honor the event with a two-day extension following the success of last year.

Tuscaloosa looks forward to continuing to provide West Alabama with a quality music and arts festival that is free to all who attend; in 2020 DCAF will feature educational demonstrations, children’s art activities, music, and food concessions.

Government Plaza in Downtown Tuscaloosa is located directly behind City Hall between 6th and 7th Street and is connected to the City of Tuscaloosa Intermodal Facility (parking deck).

Artist Selection
Potential exhibitors submit their work to go before a committee for inclusion in the Druid City Arts Festival. Exhibitors are selected on the basis of DCAF's standards of quality, originality, and creativity as interpreted by a commitee of visual arts professionals. We do not release committee results or scores.
**This is not a juried show, artists are selected by a committee.

Wait List
Once the artists have been finalized, a wait list will be made. If a participant drops out of the event, the first person on the wait list will be notified that a spot has opened up in the festival. We will move down the wait list until the spot has been filled. You will not be charged the full amount until you officially have a spot in the festival. 

Handmade Work
It is absolutely imperative that the work you display be your own handmade work. We do not allow buy-resell, kits, or mass-produced products of any kind in our art shows.
Exhibit Day
You must attend and occupy your booth for the entire days and times of the festival. This includes Friday and Saturday.

Tuscaloosa County Business License 
As a vendor, you are required to have a Tuscaloosa County Business License. If you do not have a Tuscaloosa County Business License, it will be provided upon arrival. In order to complete this process, you must answer several questions pertaining to specific vendor information. The application has been expanded to include questions necessary to obtain the county license. This information will not be shared. You will not be charged an extra amount for this application. 

Applicable Categories
2 Dimensional: Drawing, Painting and digital works. Reproduction prints are not allowed.
Clay: Original clay and porcelain work, functional or sculptural.
Fiber: Included wearable and unwearable. No machine-tooled, machine-screen printing or other forms of mass productions are accepted.
Glass: Functional and sculptural work is accepted. Kiln-forming, blowing, molding or casting, as well as all cold working processes, are permitted.
Jewelry: Only those artists accepted in the jewelry category may display or sell jewelry. All jewelry, whether produced from metal, glass, clay, fiber or other materials must apply in this category.
Metal: Sculptural or decorative work made from metal. No Jewelry will be accepted in this category.
Mixed Media: Work which combines materials from two or more mediums in one piece.
Musical Instruments: Handmade instruments.
Photography: Includes traditional film photography, hand-colored images, emulsion transfers, and digital photography. Only artist’s original source material is acceptable. All work displayed in the booth must be for sale.
Printmaking: Only hand pulled original prints are allowed. Prints must be in limited editions, signed, numbered and dated.
Sculpture: Three-dimensional work using additive or subtractive processes in a single medium.
Wood: Original works that are hand tooled, machine-worked, turned or carved.

Food: Any edible item homemade without any mixes. 

Bath/Body/Candles: All items must be original and hand-made by artist. 

Multiple Entries
Artists wishing to enter in more than one medium must submit separate applications, fees, and images for each category. If only one application is accepted, only work in that medium may be exhibited. Artists may enter in no more than three categories. Depending on entries received, we hope to accept 90 artists.
Booth Sharing/Collaborative Work
Artists working together may apply as one if they have collaborated on every piece of work the artists plan to sell and showcase in their exhibit. In this case, only one booth fee will be charged. Other artists must pay the full fee even if they choose to share a booth with another artist.
Application Requirements
1. Fill out the online application completely
  • By submitting this application, you consent to and authorize the use of any and/or all images of works in promotional literature and other promotional endeavors by Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports; including but not limited to a brochure, print and television advertisements, and internet display. Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports will keep all images of accepted work for publicity and Festival archival files
2. Submit four professional-quality digital images of your work and a description of your work as specified below. Quality of images can affect acceptance

3. Pay the non-refundable $25.00 application fee
*Applications submitted without images of work will be considered incomplete.

Entry Deadline & Acceptance Notification
Entries must be received by Midnight CST of December 2nd, 2019. Selected artists will be notified by email by December 10th, 2019.
There will be NO REFUNDS given on Booth Fees.

Weather Policy 
Our main concern and primary focus is to keep all patrons, vendors, staff, and volunteers safe.

Impending severe weather may cause the event to be suspended or postponed. Predictions on the time of impact for the severe weather must give consideration to the length of time it will take to evacuate the venue. If severe weather is forecasted for the day of the event, the Saftey Coordinator will notify key personnel of any impending severe weather forecasts.

Heavy rain is a very real possibility at outdoor events, especially in the spring and summer months. While rain itself is not a danger to patrons, volunteers, and vendors, rain-slicked roadways have potential to be a danger. Areas of concern will be communicated and control measures, such as signage, will be put in place.  

If a severe thunderstorm or tornado watch is in effect, vital information to be shared will include the threats of the watch and the time until the watch is in effect. If a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning is in effect, information to be shared will include the threats of the storm(s) and the time until the warning is in effect. If the threat is imminent, a mandatory evacuation of the venue will take place.

Weather radar will be used to help determine the proximity of lightning and which plans to implement. The direction and speed of an approaching thunderstorm will be accounted for along with developing storms that could potentially form nearby. If lightning is in the area, a decision will be made on delaying the event or evacuation if necessary.

*In order to make an educated decision about severe weather, the safety coordinator, top-level meteorologists, the National Weather Service, and other key personnel will be consulted to make sure patrons, vendors, and volunteers receive the best information regarding safety.

Booth Representative
