Event Summary
Art@ Discovery Green -  A juried Art Festival featuring 80 artists selling their works, located in the heart of Downtown Houston along the Avenida de las Americas and Maconda’s Grove in Discovery Green Park.  Discovery Green, an Urban Greenspace was named 4th best urban park in America in 2016 by USA Today.  
Art@Discovery Green is produced for The Discovery Green Conservancy by festival director Lynette Wallace, with over 28 years of art festival management, and her experienced event team.   Artists needs are a top priority, offering continued hospitality with food/beverage and booth sitting.  

Artist booth spaces are set along the Avenida and Maconda’s Grove inside Discovery Green.  Discovery Green will be transformed into a celebration of Art and the independent artist including demonstration stage and cultural performances on the Avenida.

A Houston holiday tradition - Have a spooky good time at Houston’s citywide costume contest and Halloween celebration for the whole family! There will be games, prizes, spectacles, a movie, performances, living statues, fortune tellers, music, artists selling original work and more! Visitors can win candy and prizes playing our FREE interactive games!  
Artists who choose to be open on Friday night will need to purchase the Electric booth space package for lighting in booth.  The Scream on The Green averages 30,000+ in attendance each year.

Artist Hospitality – From load-in thru load-out we offer complimentary refreshments and edibles for our artists.   Mornings include muffins, fruits, berries, nuts, donuts, pastries along with cold water, and hot coffee & tea.  Mid-day to close artists come by for snacks both healthy and sugary sweets. As Saturday is the "long day" there is Pizza for lunch both meat lovers and vegetarian and we offer continuous water, soda, juice, coffee and tea throughout the day for our artists.

Booth-sitting – At Artist Hospitality, artists sign up for booth-sitting time and we have one of our team watch the booth so you can take a break.  If an artist has needs, a text to the show phone sends someone down to assist quickly.

Booth-Sharing – Artists who have been invited to show at Art@Discovery Green may share a booth space.  Artists must notify the show by email and only checks are accepted for the split booth fee.

Security – 24 hour on-site security from load-in through load-out. Artists are responsible for their artwork and property.  We utilize an Emergency action and artist contact plan if problem at a booth or weather hazard occurs during show closed hours.

Restrooms – Not port-a-cans, real air-conditioned, flushing toilets, with sinks and mirrors.

Easy Load-in  & out – There is no driving onto Discovery Green.  Curbside loading spaces along the streets will be available during designated times for artists to park and dolly/hand truck into Maconda's Grove booth spaces.  Artist booths on Avenida de las Americas are drive up to booth space for load in and out.

Artist Parking – Artists have a designated parking area where they may park their standard size vehicles during the event.  For standard size vehicles and trailers, parking is available in the underground parking garage directly under Discovery Green.   Parking fee is $15 per day and may be purchased in advance when purchasing booth space.   For oversized vehicles, long trailers, rv's and buses, there are several above ground surface lots in the area and curbside reserved parking by City of Houston for $17 per day.  Parking fees at nearby surface lots will vary depending on the owner/management of the lot.   These parking lots may cost $20+ per day per space.   We will give updated parking information upon artist invite and acceptance.

We communicate with the artists through the Zapplication email system, e-newsletters and our website. All load in, load out and booth numbers will be available on our website 4 weeks before festival as well as phone and regular email.  
Images - The Artist is required to submit a total of four (4) images (three images of work and one booth image), a complete application per medium along with a $35 NON-REFUNDABLE jury fee. Work to be exhibited must be represented in your jury images. Enclose the three images per medium of individual pieces that accurately represent the body of work to be exhibited; work shown in the images must be representative of current work, and no more than three years old.  Artists may apply in a maximum of three media categories.
Booth Slide/4th image, must be of a display of the artist's work, showing overall continuity and presentation of your current body of work. The fourth image is mandatory. If a booth image (constructed tent & exhibit) not available, submit an image taken of a grouping of works representative of the works to be exhibited at the show. The purpose of the booth image is to ensure the artist has a complete body of work, which is represented both in the first four images and also within image #4. It also helps identify the scale of the artist's work. Note: this is a blind jury process, please avoid submitting booth images with any identifiable sign, or photo of the artist themselves. Images must be in 1920 pixel horizontal x 1920 pixel vertical format, for more information access www.zapplication.org/imaging_tips.phtml
Jury - A jury panel of 4 art professionals and collectors will jury the media using a 1-7 scoring system (no use of 4). The top 80 scores will receive an invitation to participate. The waitlist will be artists who score within 1 point of the cut- off score. Jurors will be given an opportunity to review and pre-jury at their own pace July 10.  We feel this gives all artists a better opportunity for the juror to evaluate artist’s work in a non-stress time limited environment.
It is the artist’s responsibility to identify the category for which they would like to be juried. Please choose the category which best describes your work. If you do not choose a category (medium) your application will not be processed. Artists may only show work in categories and body of work selected by the Jury.

Media Categories
Media categories are used by the Arts Festival as a tool for organizing artists' images into logical, related groups for the jury's review. While a balanced show that equitably showcases both works of fine art and fine contemporary craft as well as diversity among media is a principal objective, there is no quota or entitlement by media category.
Clayworks: All original clay and porcelain work other than jewelry is accepted in this category. No machine-made or mass produced work is permitted. If multiple pieces of the same design are displayed each piece must be signed.
Digital Art: This category includes any original work for which the original image, or the manipulation of other source material, was executed by the artist using a computer. Work in this category must be in limited editions, signed and numbered on archival quality materials. Traditional photographs taken through a digital media should apply in the photography category.
Drawing: Works created using dry media including chalk, charcoal, pastels, pencil, wax crayon, etc. or from the fluid medium of inks and washes applied by pen or brush are to be entered in this category.
Fiber: All work crafted from fibers including basketry, embroidery, weaving, leatherwork, tapestry and papermaking. No machine tooling, machine-screened patterns or other forms of mass production are permitted. No factory produced wearable items, regardless of additional modification or enhancement by the artist, may be exhibited.
Glass: No forms of mass production are permitted.
Printmaking: Printed works for which the artist's hand manipulated the plates, stones or screens
and which have been properly signed and numbered as a limited edition may be entered in this category. All photogravure, photocopy and/or offset reproductions, will be rejected. Printmakers are required to disclose both their creative and printmaking processes.
Jewelry: All jewelry whether the work is produced from metal, glass, clay, fiber, paper, plastic or other materials must be entered in this category. No commercial casts, molds or production studio work is allowed.
Metalworks: Includes all non-sculptural, non-jewelry works crafted from metals. No production studio work is allowed.
Mixed Media 2d: This category includes 2 dimensional works, that incorporate more than one type of physical material to produce.
Mixed Media 3d: This category includes 3-dimensional works, that incorporate more than one type of physical material to produce. Includes non-sculptural work as determined by the artist.
Painting: Works created in oils, acrylics, watercolor etc. are in this category.
Photography: Photographic prints made from the artist's original image, which have been processed by that artist, or under his or her direct supervision, are included in this category. Photographers are required to disclose both their creative and printing processes.
Sculpture: Three-dimensional original work done in any medium.
Wood: Original works in wood that are hand-tooled, machine-worked, turned or carved are accepted in the wood category.

Rules & Regulations
  1.   Artists must be present with their work at the Art Festival.
        Representatives may not attend in place of the artist.

  2.   The Art Festival requires photo identification at check-in to ensure compliance.

  3.   All work must be original, handcrafted work and/or limited editions of the artist's work.

  4.   Artist guarantees the accuracy of the description of the works presented and the authenticity of the work as the creation of their own hands.

  5.   It is the artist’s responsibility to identify the category for which they would like to be juried. Please choose the category which best describes your work. If you do not choose a category (medium) your application will not be processed. Artists may only show work in categories and body of work selected by the Jury. (maximum 2 categories per artist)

  6.  All work exhibited must be of the quality, category and body of work of that shown in the images juried.

  7.  Work done by a production studio is not acceptable.

  8.  All work must be designed and executed by the accepted artist.

  9. Your exhibited art must be original and your own creation.

10.  No use of commercial kits or molds.

11.  No more than two artists may collaborate on work. Both must be included on and sign the application.

12.  Exhibiting artist are required to display an artist’s statement and their booth number sign (distributed at check-in) in a prominent place within their booths.

13.  33% of all 2-Dimensional work displayed must be original. Artists must define reproduction or limited edition throughout their artist’s statement and disclose this information on the individual piece. 

14.  Artists who break down displays or depart before closing time on any day of the Festival will not be allowed to return the following day or to future shows unless approved by festival director prior to departure.

15.  All artist tent structures must be WHITE and professional grade and quality.

16.  Staking of tents is not allowed.

17. Weights (minimum 40pds per leg or 160pds total with ability to center weight if necessary) 
18. Storage of supplies must be kept within the space or hidden under a table and covered by black fabric (no tarps or plastic) along the back of booth. 

Refund Policy - A full refund for an artist needing to cancel the show for any reason 10 weeks out from weekend.
Refund for medical issues and emergencies which occur prior to the show weekend, will be considered by committee for a refund or a credit for the following years festival.

State of Texas Sales Tax - All Artists are responsible for collecting and paying State of Texas sales tax. No commission on sales will be paid to Art@Discovery Green.

Booth Information
White Tent - We  only accept White Tents!  10' x 10' , 10 x 20 canopy, weighted with a minimum of 50pds per leg. All  tent and rentals are offered through our authorized supplier Aztec Party & Tent Rentals.  Artist MUST let show know if they are renting tents, tables or other needs through Aztec.  WE need to coordinate the set up time with Aztec so your tent is up and ready prior to your arrival.  (we like to put them up Thursday late afternoon.) If you are unsure of your weights; Aztec offers for rent filled water barrels with covers and rope tie down for artist needs.     Artists with Awnings need to inform show prior to placement. Absolutely NO STAKING!
Booth Spaces
The fee is for a booth space measuring 10’ ft x 10’ ft or double at 10' x 20' .  Booths offer small area for storage.  
Selling sides must be kept tidy and visually appealing. Materials and packaging must be stored out of sight and under tables.

Booth Spaces Individual booth assignments are made to create an appealing mix of media. Assignments are at the sole discretion of Art @ Discovery Green and the Festival Director and are not interchangeable or transferable, each artist is assigned a 10' x 10' space.  Show does its best to honor artist neighbor requests or special needs.
